KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

‘REBEL HEIR:’ Is the first book in V. Keeland's & P. Ward’s ‘Rush Series Duet’ In this we meet ‘Rush and Gia’ Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives'

Rush is the owner of ‘The Heights’ the local bar/restaurant and pretty much everything else in town. Gia is on holiday in the Hampton's trying to get inspiration for her book she’s in the process of writing.

When Gia’s best friend asks her to cover her night shift at the local bar Gia couldn’t let her down even though she’d never so much as poured a drink in her life. Needing the extra money she couldn’t it down. With the knowledge that the boss wouldn’t stop in for the night she readily agrees because she’d already blown the ten-grand her publisher had already advanced her on the house share rental for the summer whilst she worked on her book.

Filling drink orders she notices a drop dead gorgeous guy down the bar watching her whilst she works making her way over to take his order next she asks him...

“What can I get you?”
He quickly replies back with “What do you know how to make?”
Which she replies back with “I know how to make beer.”

Needless to say she’s come face to face with the owner of the place and he’s not a happy chappy. He's down right angry and on the verge of firing not just her but her best friend too.

After pouring wrong drinks, and overcharging he’s ready to fire her but he finds out that he’s short staff and needs a front desk hostess, hoping that surely she couldn’t f#ck that up either.

Rush makes no qualms that he’s an arrogant crass bustard he’s well known for the fact, he’s unapproachable, at the best of times a jerk but Gia with her sassy mouthed fire cracker with a take no prisoners attitude puts him in his place, and slowly you see a different side of Rush evolve. A tender, protective side emerges.

As per usual as soon as I picked this I was engrossed with what I was reading, the banter, the sizzling attraction, her sassiness, his hotness all made for an entertaining read. He’s the sharp shooter with a forked tongue, she pushes him out of his comfort zone to the point that he doesn’t know if he’s coming or going.

She frazzles him, and bedazzles him, their attraction sizzles in the background waiting to be ignited but he has this one rule that he never shits where he eats..

LIVE EARLY! Kindle Edition “You ever just look at someone and know that if you let them, they could turn your life upside down…completely ruin you?”

Ever got yourself a massive pizza with stuffed crust and extra carbs on the side to go. Placed it on the kitchen counter top, stared at it and thought, You are no good to me whatsoever, I have experienced your effects multiple times and have seen what you do to me. Then, just when you're about to close the box and outsmart that fucking pizza, you say damn it all to hell... and you stuff your I deserve this mouth.

That was a brief summary of what this book was like to read.

___________

Alex Explains the Pizza Symbolism
Now, although a lot of the tropes and the cliches in this book were done before - I do want to go ahead and start this by saying this was a massive guilty pleasure. In fact, it was the epitome of one - because I know for a fact if I read this again and sit down and think about it, I would list out a whole bunch of reasons why this book and me wouldn't gel well.

However, beyond the cliches and the predictable plot lines lay a page-turner. True to every sense of the word. I don't know if it was because it was a slow burn romance or because it was humorous at times or even because I was stuck on a 5 and a half hour flight. I kept reading and I couldn't stop myself.

That being said, it does end in a cliffhanger and I feel no push to read the second book. It's a weird predicament I'm in. I found more wrong with this than right but I still really enjoyed myself. I can follow every literary criticism with a point that went well, yet that doesn't negate the fact that there is a plethora of those critiques.

See, it's weird!!!

The Plot
Rebel Heir is centered around Rush and Gia. Both of them are sass queens and both of them fuel off each other - the minute they meet, sparks seem to fly and once the realization sets in that Rush is Gia's 'boss', the sexual tension rises to an all time high. A summer in the Hamptons is set in store for both characters as Gia tries to finish writing her upcoming romance novel and keep her mind off her new boss. Both of which, she fails terribly at doing.

I really enjoyed seeing the control that Gia had and how her demands for a serious relationship were actually taken... serious. I liked that the authors embedded a sense of realness in the relationship and didn't set it out to be artificial and 'perfect' like most NA writers do.

Then again, there were some instances were the dialogue was awkward and chipped off and could have really done with some heavy re-thinking.

I wouldn't be me if I didn't provide with example(s):

i)
Of course, I was also borderline obsessed with being inside her—not just getting her off and finishing myself off either. I wanted to fill every orifice of that damn woman.

...
...
every orifice???

ii)
If I didn’t already dig this chick, she had to go and tell me she threw a baby doll into a fire. Something about that whole twisted story just warmed my black heart.

iii)
My cock twitched. Down boy.

get it, I used a Woody gif.

How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:
Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony looking crowd. A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.
Check. Check. Check.
I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.
Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.
Especially when he’s mean to you.
Or so I thought.
Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.
That was sort of how it all started with Rush.
And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.
I never expected that the two of us, seemingly opposites from the outside, would grow so close.
I wasn't supposed to fall for the rebel heir, especially when he made it clear he didn’t want to cross the line with me.
As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter. My summer became a lot more interesting—and complicated.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Rebel Heir is the first book in the Rush Series Duet. Book Two, Rebel Heart, will release six weeks later on May, 22, 2018. Rebel Heir (Rush Duet, #1)

Rebel

The slut shaming pissed me the hell of. Basically, everyone who previously slept with hero was a slut or a whore. So yeah girls, it's 21st century but you can't have no strings attached sex cause you're a slut or a whore automatically. And also, you can't wear heels, short skirts and low cut blouses cause you look like sluts too.

And this coming from female authors.

Well... that was disappointing. I like both authors' previous work but this one didn't click. I didn't feel the love or chemistry between hero and heroine. And don't get me started on the twist, because I pretty much guessed who was the other guy from the early on. And the sex scenes were bland to that.

I am curious about how this story would end but not sure if enough to read the next book.

”You’ve always really had it.” “You’re loyalty?” He shook his head. ”You said, sometimes you have to let go of the things you never really had. You’ve had my love since day one. You’ve had me since day one. I was just too chicken-shit to admit it.”

REBEL HEIR is the first installment of a duet series written by the incomparable writing due of Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward. I have loved just about every book they’ve created together as well as their individual projects. For the first time, they are tackling a series together. So far the ”RUSH DUET” is off to a very good start!

Gia is a feisty and wildly spirited young woman. She's an aspiring romance author who is renting a house in the Hamptons with several other tenants in order to give her inspiration while she attempts to write her first novel. She meets Rush, the sinfully sexy but rough around the edges businessman while she covers her roommate’s bartending shift at a popular local restaurant/bar. Gia fails miserably as a bartender and unfortunately for her the owner witnesses the entire debacle. He threatens to fire her friend while also acting like a complete belligerent jerk towards her. But Gia is not the kind of women to meekly bow out from a confrontation and she gives back just as good as she gets from Rush. He winds up giving her a job as a Hostess and from that night on the two are nearly inseparable and there’s no denying the white-hot chemistry that exists between them.

While Rush can be hot-headed and is feared by most of his employees, Gia knows that he has a kind heart underneath it all and nothing he says or does seems to get to her. She’s the only one aside from his mother, who knows how to handle him. From the moment they met Rush has lusted after Gia but he puts the brakes on any chances at a romantic entanglement with her when he makes it clear that he NEVER gets involved with his employees. But every day that they spend together seems to be wearing the both of them down.

Rush has never been in a serious relationship and it stems from his childhood. He was raised by an amazing single mom but knowing what his deadbeat loser of a father did to her, has left emotional scars. He fears that he has some of his Dad’s evil blood pumping in his veins and would never want to repeat the mistakes of his father.

Gia is falling hopelessly in love with Rush and it becomes abundantly clear that Rush is no match against her determination. Once these two give in to their feelings, their passion for each other burns brighter than the sun. But the couple’s happiness is soon challenged by an unexpected surprise with a disturbing connection! This ends on a big cliffhanger that, to be honest, I had predicted easily.

Can Rush and Gia’s relationship survive once the big truth is revealed?

I just liked the book cover model.
Me...blushing...

...And apparently the story is good too...

First of all you need to know that this the first book out of a two book story. There is a cliffhanger in the end, but nothing I was not really expecting.

Rush is the lucky heir of a very important fortune. The bastard child of a very rich guy, he also has another brother of a similar age who is the legitimate child of his father.
Being denied by his father, Rush was lucky enough to have a grandfather that loved him and tried to correct any mistakes and who left Rush with a great fortune when he died.
Rush did not grow up as a rich child, his mother suffered a lot in order to raise him and now Rush does not like either his father or his brother.
Rush among other things, he is also the owner of ‘The Heights’, the local bar/restaurant.

Gia is an author in the making. She tries to finish her book and since she is broke, she will accept any job .When her friend asks her to cover for her as a bartender at ‘The Heights’, Gia accepts (although she really does not know anything about cocktails or bartending:

“What can I get for you?”
“What do you know how to make?” God, the voice matched his face. Sexy, deep, and intense.
Apparently, he’d been sitting there for a while and figured out I wasn’t the best bartender. “Beer,” I grinned. “I know how to make beer.”
I caught a glimpse of a lip twitch—I thought. “The owner realized when he hired you that you only knew one drink recipe?”

So, Gia and Rush will meet at his bar for the first time. Obviously she will be fired straight away from the bartending position, but she will be also hired straight away as a front desk hostess.

Rush’s behaviour will be awesome. Firstly he will try to stay away from Gia and resist their mutual pull because he never dates his employees, but soon he will not be able to resist. He will be tender and tentative with Gia. He will look after her whether she knows about it of not. The good thing is that there will be no major secrets between them or horrible misunderstandings. Their relationship will proceed naturally.

I liked Gia and I liked Rush but mostly I liked their parents:

1. Rush's mother
My mother offered me a sad smile. “Sweetheart, sometimes the risk of what bad things could happen keeps us from experiencing all the good things life has to offer.”

2. Gia' father

Tony was just watching me and then caught me off guard when he said, “So…that being said…in all seriousness, what exactly are your intentions when it comes to my daughter?”
I nearly spit out my coffee.
A long moment of silence passed before they once again turned to each other and burst into laughter. These two were in cahoots—a couple of pranksters.
Tony cackled and pointed. “I loved the look on your face.”

I am now ready for book 2, please... Kindle Edition One thing is for certain is that I love when Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland team up to write a book.
I love the fact that when I began this book, I quickly became caught up in their story. Vi and Penelope write seamlessly into every page, every word has you hooked. Their books they have written together are all binge-worthy. It’s hard to put them down.
There it is, I love this book and am so damn impatient for the conclusion of Gia and Rush’s story especially with that LITTLE cliffhanger ending. Such a mix of emotions and I’m still reeling from it.

If you’re a Vi and Penelope fan, you won’t be disappointed! Kindle Edition
