Paul is convinced he has met Victor before. Every time he sees him, there is a major sense of deja vu that bothers him. On top of the feeling of knowing he has met Victor before is the strong feeling that they've done more than just pass each other on the street or shared the same plane during Paul's frequent business trips. He is convinced that he knows Victor in an intimate way, but why can't he remember? And why does the longing he feels for the stranger also come with a strong fear that he can't shake?

Paul has met Victor on many occasions, only he's not supposed to remember. Victor is a vampire and after each encounter with Paul, he wipes his memory of what has occurred. Vampires aren't supposed to use the same human as a blood source again and again, but something has Victor going back to Paul. There is something about Paul that has him breaking all the rules.

This is a really good story, though I did have a couple of niggles with it. As another reviewer stated, there's a bit of repetitiveness throughout. The story is quite short, at around 44 Kindle pages, but I found myself reading ... while I can't say the exact scene over and over, different scenes that were so similar to the ones before them that I was wanting to see something a bit ... more, I guess I can say. More different. And strangely, as short as the story is, I found myself a little confused in a few places. Other readers might not, so that may not even be an issue for some.

The sex is a bit rough in places, but I found it to be hot as hell. I love darker books so it was perfect for me.

The relationship between Paul and Victor is unique, though I would have liked to have seen few pages added at the end to see where the story went from there. The ending will either be loved or hated by some. I got it completely as it made complete sense to the story, though I would have been okay as well had it gone in another direction entirely.

Overall, a nice, quick read. You get sucked into the story immediately and will turn the pages quickly to see what will be happening next. I'm always a fan of darker characters so I adored Victor from the very first page. Highly recommended if you like dark and sexy, along with a nice story.

This book was provided by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. Kindle Edition This book is not the typical romance between a human and a vampire; no actual HEA, more an HFN. The vampire is a real vampire, like in movies, with many supernatural powers you associate with vampires. The core element of this story is that the human heart/body knows what the mind doesn't remember. And no superpower can fool a heart in love.

This edition is a longer version of a short story previously published in an M/M Anthology of the author. And I would love that the author writes an even longer story because there is so much potential. . Kindle Edition What a frightening and heartbreaking tale! This story made me feel all of Paul's emotions, including fear, anxiety, lust, desperation, and love. Victor was beautiful, but he was also the terrifying vampire from nightmares, with no kindness or shame for his true identity or his treatment of Paul. The sex/biting scenes were both hot and horrible. The writing was lovely and haunting. This was a great October read that will stay with me.

Hey, this is good :) Tami's my GR friend but we don't know each other very well, and she's a new-to-me author. This was an intriguing and fresh take on a trope I had considered pretty much worn out. Well, she just proved me wrong. I don't want to spoiler anyone with details, but this is a recommended short read. Very enjoyable. Left me wanting more. Kindle Edition Did I LOVE this book?
Abso-fucking-lutely!

I want to know why I miss you when I can't even remember your name.

Victor leaned forward and kissed him. His lips and tongue invaded with fierce attention. Paul met it with desperation. Victor cradled his head and slid one thumb up against Paul's temple. I can't risk it.
Read. This. Book.

You know I rarely give 5-star reviews.

A five star book has to hook me immediately and not let up. The story has to be original, the characters must be intriguing, and above all else - I want to be completely absorbed from beginning to end...

That's a tall order for a short story, but let me assure you - this was 44 pages of perfection. Beautifully written with a carefully crafted plot.

Paul
He wondered how many of his late nights at the office were actually lost memories of Victor. How many times had he discovered Victor's secret, accepted him, and been betrayed?
Paul sees Victor's piercing blue eyes for the first time while flying on business. He's absolutely stunned when the gorgeous stranger corners him in the lavatory for a little mile high club action.

There's something predatory about this stunning man...
Something deeply disturbing about his smooth voice...
Something oddly familiar about the feel of his skin...

Paul emerges from the airplane lavatory and meets Victor's piercing blue eyes for the first time... Again.

It seems Victor and Paul have been sharing many 'firsts' - incredibly erotic encounters which Paul never gets to remember at the end of their trysts.

Paul has no memory of what transpired mere minutes earlier, but he is drawn to the dangerous stranger in front of him.

Victor
I was just supposed to take what I needed and move on but I'd never met anyone who enjoyed so much... or begged. [...] You weren't ever supposed to know me.
I've never wanted to get into the brain of a character more than I did with Victor. The entire tale is told from Paul's POV - we see Victor as a dark and mysterious stranger.

One thing is for certain - Victor can't seem to stay away from Paul.
His secrets are exposed each time they meet, but never remembered.

Vague memories flicker like ghosts in Paul's brain - intense memories of ecstasy and blood and longing.

Victor can steal his memories, but he cant erase the way he makes Paul feel.

So grab yourself a coffee (cause there are a lot of coffee references in this book) and curl up with a copy of En Memoriam... You won't regret it.

Sexy, dark, and dangerous.

Having read and enjoyed Tami Veldura’s Stealing Serenity, I was very confident that I would enjoy her take on vampires and their use of glamour, even if they often feel tired and overdone. Fear not, dear reader! En Memoriam is a fresh and unusual short story, with strong, memorable characters and a ferocious sexual intensity that had me fanning myself.

Each time Paul encounters Victor, there is an element of fear, and also a feeling of familiarity. He knows he’s done this before. Many times, perhaps, but he just can’t remember.

With one swipe of Paul’s temple, Victor deprives Paul of his memories of their encounters. The problem is that Paul is unable to move on with his life. Alcohol, work, and other men can’t fulfill him or erase that feeling he’s lost something. He has desires that only Victor can satisfy, and he keeps coming back. Victor is not accustomed to staying with one person, yet there’s something in Paul.

So curl up under a warm blanket and spend some quality time with two incredibly sexy and determined men who are not afraid of taking what they need. You won’t regret it.

Wow. Most vampire erotica follows the usual suck and fuck tropes. While this can get pretty stale after a while, not all fangster reads are equal, and I would set this one apart.

It’s kind of a mind fuck, too, as the title suggests. The author sets up an interesting dilemma based on the ‘glamour’ aspect of vampirism. You know… where the undead can manipulate their victim’s mind and memory.

Paul meets Victor, but he seems so familiar… surely they’ve met before? The two men are magnetically drawn to each other and have a series of hook ups. But Paul has fractured, selective memories of them. It’s confusing, and the reader is confused, too. So much so that you wonder what is real and what is just erotically charged fantasies that Paul indulges in whenever he thinks about Victor. And he thinks about Victor a lot. The booty calls are kinky hot; who knew fangs could be so sexy…

“He’d never had a bite fetish like this before. He didn’t like the pain but the gentle suck on his neck pulled like a slow blow job.”

This one is hard to review. It’s not conventional. While the unfolding and folding of the plot intrigues, it’s also disturbing. Because of Paul’s dilemma and Victor’s manipulation, the hook ups fall into dubious consent… “He knew this burn. He knew the stretch of Victor’s bare cock. Submit or be forced.”

Victor is no simpering, angsty vamp; he is the monster of your dreams. Is this a romance, or isn’t it? Does Paul get his happily-ever-after, or not? You be the judge.

What you can count on here is a creative take on the genre. And it’s amazing that it gets done in less than fifty pages. I keep returning to this author. Whether it’s sci-fi (Closer Than Touch) or pirates! (Blood In The Water) I can expect well written, twisty, engrossing storytelling. En Memoriam will stick in my memory for some time.

(Ok… I do have to mention that there are a LOT of references to coffee in this story. The guys are continually drinking it or meeting at coffee shops. Or, it’s used descriptively: “The voice purred, smooth, like a French roast.” “...the vampire laughed in his head like bright espresso.” “The sound shuddered through Paul and he savored it like a hot coffee.” I might be missing the joke here, if there is one, but this was distracting.)

3.5 star review by The Blogger Girls.

This was an enjoyable vampire story, with a bit of sexiness and mystery. Victor is the vampire who has gone against his nature and fed from Paul repeatedly. He erases Paul’s memory each time, but Paul begins to remember little things so that he questions what is going on.

They keep meeting, and although Paul doesn’t remember the previous meets, he begins to have feelings and thoughts of it not being the first time. His continuing sense of deja vu has him pressing Victor each time. When he finds out how long Victor has been meeting, feeding, etc. from him, he is a bit shocked. However, he gets over it pretty quick and wants to experience the sex, etc. Victor always ends up erasing his memory anyway. :D

Eventually, Paul gets Victor to spill some more details about what’s going on, including more about Victor as a vampire, what he actually looks like and what it all means. Paul is somewhat intrigued by Victor’s true form, and gets the chance to explore it. In the end, Victor turns the tables and asks for Paul to take control and give him a vampire experience.

This was a little repetitive until Paul got to the bottom of things. It moves along pretty quickly and can easily be read in one sitting. I would have liked to have learned more about Victor and his vampiness and that it had been a bit more fleshed out, but it was still a nice afternoon delight.
Kindle Edition

Paul has seen Victor before, he just can’t remember where. The rush of fear in his stomach when Victor glances his way is familiar. Paul knows the slant of his smile. There’s nothing safe here, but when Victor offers to meet over coffee, Paul is swayed by this sense of knowing. Victor’s touch feels like an old lover. His hands have been here before.

Paul is sure he once learned something Victor is trying to hide. His hair stands on end whenever Victor gives him attention, like his body reacting to danger that his mind can’t recall. He’s not sure uncovering more is a good idea but he craves what Victor might give him.

Paul wants to know why he longs for Victor’s voice. He dreams about conversations they’ve never had. He desires a darkness he’s never seen before. They met only once, but this longing is too intense. Victor is keeping secrets, Paul just can’t remember them.

Expanded from Mile High Vampire, a reader favorite flash story previously published in the collection Fanged. En Memoriam stands alone. En Memoriam
