A small group of Texans become frustrated with the loss of liberty in their lives and determine that situation to be no longer tolerable. Using the past as a guide, they found their own community and proceed to establish a society based on the principles which founded the United States and Texas. They decide to ignore unconstitutional edits of the national government and live as the founders of the United States intended intended for free people to live. As the community grows, the residents are confronted with issues of local government and eventually they come to the attention of federal government authorities. Those authorities are determined to enforce the US Code of Federal Regulations and the Texans bid defiance.

We Defy! is the story of that return to a way of life of individual liberty and the resulting conflict with governmental authorities. The results impact the residents, Texas and the United States.

Great take off the beginning of Texas independence!

Week written and not believable then I would have expected. Looking forward to book two. Well edited for an indie book! We Defy!: A Tale Set in the Near Future We Defy! by Tommy L. Attaway Jr. is set in a near-future Texas, where Jim Roberts, an ex-military captain and right-winger, is setting plans in motion to defend the Constitution of the USA by setting up independent government in the quiet Texas county of Borden. Jim’s plan involves bloodless takeover of the county by resettlement with his supporters, followed by widespread militia training with an eye to defence of the county and grassroots networking with other local separatists to gain popular and political support for his agenda. His plans for an independent currency system attract notice at the Federal level, and soon Jim’s social revolution is facing challenges that will make or break his vision of the future.

We Defy! is an realistically-written political dystopia, with intricately detailed military and political plotlines, offering an up-close-and-personal view of how a Texan secession could begin. From casual meetings with a few fellow-travellers to armed confrontation with Federal forces, Tommy L. Attaway Jr.’s plot showcases the all-male militia, the wives and their sidearms in their traditional roles in the home, and gives a chilling glimpse of the importance of religion over education as the churches begin to go up far in advance of the schools. While the level of detail that had clearly gone into plot-planning didn’t always extend to the writing, which featured a number of jarring point-of-view slips and read rather clunkily, I would definitely recommend this to dystopia and political fiction enthusiasts.
