Thin Ice (Sleeper SEALs, #7) By Maryann Jordan
4.5 star review of Thin Ice (Sleeper Seals #7) by Maryann Jordan
This is book 7 in the Sleeper Seals story and can be read as a stand alone. I know this as I have not read any of the previous books in the series.
I enjoy reading books in the romantic suspense genre and this was a good example of a well developed story line. I enjoyed the intrigue and action mixed with the romance.
When Logan (Preacher) Bishop agrees to run a mission in Alaska to monitor a new ISIS cell he is surprised when he is teamed up with security specialist Vivian Sanders who works for the International Olympic Committee.; not only that but they have to pretend to be married.
Logan, a former Navy Seal is extremely detail oriented whilst Vivian learns towards being more impulsive, these differences drive the other to distraction. Can these two complete opposites, find a common goal whilst fighting their attraction to each other and the obstacles that are constantly thrown in their path?
Preacher is a totally Alpha, protective man who will do what ever it takes to protect her even though Vivian is a strong and feisty heroine. Thin Ice (Sleeper SEALs, #7)
Thin Ice is part of the Sleeper SEALs but they don't have to be read in order! This is a series of books written by different authors that have 1 connecting character, a retired Commander who finds SEALs to go on covert, single man missions. In Thin Ice, that retired SEAL is Logan, a helo pilot who was injured saving a teammate. He agrees to take this mission because his life feels like its missing something and he does miss the excitement and service! He is tasked with investigating a terrorist cell that could be making a biological weapon. He is teamed up with a scientist from the Department of Homeland security. He and Viv have to work in close quarter and pretend to be married...what could go wrong?!
Viv is obviously not a trained field agent, so this is new to her. She was an interesting character who was way out of her element! Viv's backstory was really interesting as well with her unique heritage! Logan is so used to being alone and never interacting with people that he struggles with Viv for a bit early on. Add is the suspense of the possible terrorist threat and you have compelling story!

Thin Ice
The beginning of the book is a rough go. Vivian's bosses are total jerks to not tell her that her job involves more than just analyzing chemicals, and Preacher is an ass to Vivian in several different ways. However, once they start to understand each other and work together, the book really comes together Thin Ice (Sleeper SEALs, #7) Logan and Viv are an unlikely pair that are thrown together to find out just how serious the terrorist threat is in a rural Alaskan village. Viv has roots nearby as well as the professional know-how to get answers, Logan has the practical experience dealing with sensitive terrorist situations. What neither of them were prepared for were each other.
Logan is a recluse by choice dealing with tourists and townspeople in Montana only when he wants to. He likes the open country, the isolation, and the seclusion his property and civilian profession allows. When he gets this mission he's more inclined to refuse than accept but his sense of justice, duty, and pride make him go all in. Thinking he's working with a nerdy scientist guy that he can keep out of his way he's shocked and upset to find the alluring woman in his rental house.
Viv is surprised by Logan but aside from his hot visage, his attitude is more negatively shocking than anything else. Given just as much information as he was given about their partnership she's clueless as to how they can actually work together. He's obviously unaware of just how important her role is and she refuses to back down and let him run roughshod over her just because she's not military or a man.
Together they bumble through their personal feelings and desires and stumble through their accidental meetings with their neighbors. When things get dicey, though, they pull together to get the samples they need and determine the threat level. Their cooperation and passion are short-lived, though, when Logan takes it upon himself to protect her by sending her away. Viv is hurt and confused. Their lack of honest and transparent communication leads to an even worse situation than they expected when coincidental travel plans cross.
I have a hard time with secrets in general and though the secrets here are kept well-meaningly it's not a surprise that they're used to not just advance the plot but to create an even more dramatic reckoning. The story itself was pretty good throughout with a naive yet eager and intelligent woman drawing out the yearning in Logan for a partner of the forever kind. There was way too little groveling from Logan, though. Aside from that I felt they could be a solid pair if there were a bit more in the way of laying feelings bare and building a friendship in addition to a solid foundation of passion. The ending was really sweet and showed a lot of growth on Logan's part. They were well on their way to becoming the best kind of partnership.
Read and willingly reviewed this ARC from the author. Thin Ice (Sleeper SEALs, #7) Been waiting for Preachers book from when I first read about him. Loved it and wished it was longer.
Loving this Sleeper SEALs series. Preacher is a retired Navy SEAL that spends his time flying tourists in his helicopter over Montana. After he’s contacted to run mission in Alaska to investigate Biological terrorists, he jump at the chance.
Vivian Sanders is a biologist that works for the Homeland Security and has to help Preacher and find out what chemical weapon the terrorists are creating.
Loved it and loved that Viv was a strong heroine.
Preacher was so protective of Viv like we are used in Maryann’s books.
Can’t wait for more of this series. Thin Ice (Sleeper SEALs, #7)
The Sleeper SEALs, are former U.S. Navy SEALs recruited by a new CIA counter-terror division to handle solo dark ops missions to combat terrorism on U.S. soil.
Logan (Preacher) Bishop, retired Navy SEAL, flew tourists on helicopter rides over the mountains of Montana and occasionally rescued skiers from snowy slopes. With the threat of terrorists developing means of biological warfare, he jumped at the chance to run a mission in Alaska, monitoring the activities of a newly established ISIS cell.
Vivian Sanders, a biologist with the Department of Homeland Security, was tasked with finding out what the terrorists were creating. Assigned to work with an agent on a cell in Alaska, she was stunned to find she was being paired with a security specialist and he knew nothing about their cover—living next door to the terrorists and pretending to be married.
Precise in his planning and executions of missions, the impulsive Viv drove Logan to distraction and of all his missions, he was certain this one would fail. Learning to work together, Logan and Viv discover opposites do attract. But the secret Logan carries—how he is to finish the mission—is one he is afraid she won’t be able to accept.
When the chemicals created by the terrorists next door threatened to be tested on a small town in Alaska, they fight to survive…both hoping their love survives the battle as well.
** Logan Bishop was first introduced in the Saints Protection & Investigation Series (Surviving Love). This book is in the Sleeper SEAL connected series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.
Each book in this multi-author branded series is a standalone novel, and the series does not have to be read in order.
****Due to scenes of an explicit sexual nature and language that some consider crude, please be warned - for 18+ only! If you do not like alphas with heart who fall in love with strong female characters while dealing with real life issues...again be warned!!*****
Thin Ice (Sleeper SEALs, #7)
4.5 star
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, secrets, suspense, and heartbreak.
The below books are also in this series if you want to read them in order:
Protecting Dakota (SEAL of Protection #9; Sleeper SEALs #1) by Susan Stoker
Slow Ride (Sleeper SEALs #2) by Becky McGraw
Michael's Mercy (Heroes for Hire #10; Sleeper SEALs #3) by Dale Mayer
Saving Zola (Sleeper SEALs #4) by Becca Jameson
Bachelor SEAL (Sleeper SEALs #5) by Sharon Hamilton
Montana Rescue (Brotherhood Protectors #8; Sleeper SEALs #6)
This is Vivian and Logan’s story. After an injury Loan left the SEALs and now flies tourists over the mountains near his home. But when an friend wants him to go on a mission to monitor and terminate an ISIS cell he agrees. What he didn’t plan on was a partner who he had to interact with. Vivian was told what was expected of her but she didn’t plan for a surly partner that didn’t know the plan. When he steps in and starts ordering her around she does not understand his motives. When he finally explains the situation, she understands. The more she interacts with the people they are supposed to be monitoring the more things get tense between them. Can they come to an agreement or will he push her away when it comes times fir the job to be completed? Can they solve the mystery of what the people are doing before they can cause all kinds of havoc? Or will they end up losing everything?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book. Thin Ice (Sleeper SEALs, #7) Vivian Sanders is a bioterrorism scientist who has been recruited to assist in determining what a group of homegrown terrorists are cooking up. She's grown bored with sitting at a desk all day and wants to try her hand at field work. Due to her Alaskan ethnicity and education, she was chosen to assist Preacher with his investigation in Alaska. She's been told that she's to pretend she and Preacher are a newly married couple. She just wished Preacher was informed!
Preacher, discharged due to injury, lives the quiet life in Montana. Preacher flies tourists in his helicopter to view the beautiful landscapes of Montana. He also plans missions, but no longer participates in them. He's approached by a former Commander to plan and execute an op to exterminate a homegrown terrorist group in Alaska. Preacher arrives in Alaska assuming the scientist he'll be working with is male. He darn sure didn't know part of his cover was based on pretending to be married to the beautiful Viv Sanders. She's impulsive, not trained, and now his wife. As they work together to eradicate danger, they find they really like each other. Deciding to live in the moment, they begin an affair with a likely end date. Preacher knows Viv will go running for the hills once she finds out his true mission--kill the terrorists, not arrest them. Will they be able to stop the terrorists before they spread a deadly virus AND be able to build a life together?
While the Sleeper Seals novels are stand-alone novels that can be read in any order, Maryann Jordan's novel is loosely linked to her other series. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat. It was a fast-paced, suspenseful romance. I loved that real life issues, such as PTSD and bioterrorism were discussed. I also LOVED that Viv wasn't a weak, whiny, clingy woman. She was strong, smart, and funny. The perfect couple! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
Thin Ice (Sleeper SEALs, #7) Thin Ice
This is another awesome Sleeper SEAL series book with Logan a retired SEAL helicopter pilot after ruining his knee saving a fellow SEAL. Commander Lambert asked him to join the Sleeper SEAL group on a mission that was going after terrorists in Alaska that were threatening a biological warfare attack on innocent people in the United States. He agreed and was to work with a biologist who was to tell him what the terrorists were making and to them eliminate the threat completely. Vivian was the biologist and they were suppose to be newlyweds and Logan freaked out since they did not tell him that. He was a loner and always kept to himself after leaving the SEALs and worked as a tour helicopter pilot in Montana. Vivian was picked because she was of Alaskan descent and would fit right in with her background and was a lab biologist. They actually worked really well together saving each other's lives and even fell in love while completing their mission. This was a romantic suspenseful action packed story and gives you insight into what could actually happen in this day and age. I agreed with this Sleeper group that they completely eliminate the terrorists after solid proof instead of arresting them. It was great as Logan and Vivian got their happily ever after in Montana. I cannot wait to read the next release in this multi author series and highly recommend every single book in it. Thin Ice (Sleeper SEALs, #7) Even Thin Ice can lead to love
When Greg Lambert visits Logan Bishop to offer him an opportunity to find a cell in Alaska who are cooking up a potential nasty virus he jumps at the chance. Being a retired Navy SEAL isn't all that's it's cracked up to be now he's flying tourists around Glacier National Park. But little does he know that meeting with his Department of Homeland Security co-worker, Vivian will lead to the biggest change in his life. She sleeps like the dead and must have coffee every morning before talking could become more important than the operation.
Vivian Saunders jumps at the chance to work in Alaska finding a Bio Terrorism cell who want to infect a whole group of people with their virus. But when she meets Logan at their house she realizes that it isn't all what she thought it would be since looking at laptops all day long is very boring. But when things start to heat up between the two Logan worries that it may become too much because Logan has been tasked to eliminated the threat when he leaves. But when Viv is kidnapped things change for the both of them. Can they stop the terrorists in time before they spread their virus and can they both figure how to take their love beyond the operation?
I Loved the description of Zombie Viv each morning and the action packed conclusion is great but when she visits Logan in Montana looking for closure is the icing on the cake. Thin Ice (Sleeper SEALs, #7) Logan a.k.a. Preacher is recruited for a mission in Alaska to determine what a group of terrorists are working on. He is a former Navy SEAL who also has a pilots license which comes in handy for his cover.
He meets the biochemist who is going to help him but he assumes it's a male. Wrong! He meets Vivian and the fireworks fly from there, not good ones at first as he is used to working alone or at least with trained men. Vivian does work for homeland security but behind a desk or in a lab. She doesn't follow orders well and yet somehow ends up making things work somehow.
This was my first read from Ms. Jordan and enjoyed her writing style and how she vividly described the scenery of Alaska and Montana.
The story itself was a page turner and was eye opening because this story dealt with bioterrorists and what could possibly happen.
Logan is strong, determined, protective, a typical Navy SEAL. He was a great character and one I enjoyed getting to know.
Vivian was a great partner for him and she went above and beyond what was asked of her. She is smart, sassy, brave, loving and a badass in her own right.
I am definitely going to look for more books by Ms. Jordan. Thin Ice (Sleeper SEALs, #7)
