The Transcaucasus (Former Soviet Republics) By Richard Giragosian

Of all of the nonfiction books I've read on foreign countries, this series gives the best summary of the history of each place. It's well organized, presented, and allows the reader to follow a structured path from start to finish. On a personal note, I particularly enjoyed this book because it touched on the autonomous republics in certain countries and a few hours after I read this the news showed that Abkhazians were heading to the polls for elections and I was proud that I knew what Abkazia was (for those who do not know, it is one of three self-proclaimed autonomous regions of Georgia, then again, this book was published 2001, so I'm guessing a lot has changed since then). Would I recommend this book? Yes! Read it to understand the world we live in today, or just read it for fun! It's quite interesting. The Transcaucasus (Former Soviet Republics)

Situated on a rugged mountainous crossroads of East and West, the three countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia comprise the region known as the Transcaucasus. The shared history of these peoples offer a chance for genuine cooperation against the challenges of competition and economic problems. The Transcaucasus (Former Soviet Republics)
