Going the Distance (No Excuses #1) By Mila Rossi
***4,5 Little Minx stars***
This was a light, short, sexy reading about a hot as hell, cocky fighter and a feisty, sassy and dynamic heroine...
Even though this novel was short, i catched myself to enjoy this story very much!!!
I loved both Trent and Samantha... I liked the burning chemistry between them, but what i've liked even more was the fact that even the book was so short, the pace that the things were moving was very good!!!
Everything started with a slap in a Las Vegas club...
Trent's attention captured by a girl, but his tactic wasn't the best... and that earned him a slap that he will never forget!!! At the same night that he had his first loss in more than a decade!!!
Samantha hated this cocky man that he thought he was the king of the world and her ethic couldn't bare the humiliation that he caused her, so her insticts took place and she reacted with a slap on his face...
Days later, Samantha is in a very difficult position...
Her boss is giving her an ultimatum... She had to take an interview from a fighter that he never gives interviews or she will lose her job...
The most awful thing in this deal??? The fighter is the same guy who slap in Vegas!!!!
And he is determined to make her life a living hell...
From this moment, a sexy game is starting between those two...
Trent is trying to win her in exchange of the interview and Samantha is trying to avoid this position with other tactics...
Who will win this fight???
What will happen when they learn each other better and fall for one another???
What about their original plans and the distraction that they are causing to each other???
He'd consider giving her an interview if she gave him more of what he wanted. The thought made him clench his jaw. Now he was willing to break his own rules for her.
This was dangerous business.
I loved Trent very much!!!
He was sexy, cocky, arrogant and very funny...
Yep, in the beginning was acting like a pig but in a way i understood him...
That one loss made him feel so insecure about his fighting skills and he had to focus on his goal to become better and return back to the ring...
But that little minx came unexpectedly in his life and demanded his heart and soul and he couldn't allow that, as much as he was burning for her...
Trent didn't need that right now in his life...
He still had a few years left in him... so fighting should be his priority. Not women. Or not one woman, to be precise. Lots of women were fine, but one in particular wasn't. Because that one lone woman could make him lose his fucking mind.
I also loved Samantha...
The girl was a fighter... She was feisty, sassy, smart, sweet when she wanted to and very kind. Trent made her a very bad impression, but she had to admit that he was so damn sexy!!! But she didn't want to be another one girl in the line...
So, even though that her body was betraying her every time she was near to him, her mind was refusing to surrend in his sexy ways... So she tried to play by her own rules... even though that she hadn't so much success in that plan... LOL!!!
Even though this was part of her work mission, she couldn't lie to herself. She liked Trent. There was something about his arrogance that was magnetic.
Trent and Samantha were having such a chemistry...
Their interactions were funny and sexy!!!
And damn me, that interview melt my panties!!!
So, as you can understand from above, i really enjoyed this book...
I couldn't get enough of it and i can't wait for the rest of the books in the No excuses series...

*May have Spoilers*
Are you turning me down? Yes, she said seriously. I have no interest in your bed. He stepped closer, almost touching her body. I'm not called The Punisher for no reason. Well, baby, then go find yourself someone else to punish, she said, staring into his eyes. I can fuck any girl here, he said, staring at her lips. She was taken aback at the crude comment. Then I suggest you better get to work.-Trent and Sam
Going the Distance was a pretty good read for me. I enjoyed Trent. He was sexy, totally arrogant, dominate, and had a very filthy mouth. Sam was cute. She was so sassy. I love me some sassy heroines. I liked that Sam came from a bad background but she didn't let that define her or hold her back! The problem I had with the book the reason this book was just a pretty good read for me and not a great read was because I didn't connect to Sam and Trent as a couple.
I've waited long enough, he said against her lips. Tonight, you're mine. I'm gonna fuck you until you scream my goddamn name. The declaration should have alarmed her, but instead, she pressed her hips against him eagerly, wanting so badly what he promised. We'll see if you live up to your name,-Trent and Sam
Don't get me wrong the sexy time was there and it was hot. And I liked Sam and Trent as individual characters but I didn't feel their relationship. Or more like I didn't think they really had one. They had like 3 dates, some sexy time, lots of time apart then at the end they are together. I didn't even get an I love you from either! I just felt like I needed more. More relationship development, more time together so I could understand why they even chose each other.
I gave you a glimpse into the life you missed out on, Trent, but I don't know why I bothered. I was right the first time we met. You really are an asshole. He thought he'd been stunned before, but now her really didn't know what to say. She stared up at him with hardened eyes and he wondered how he could have been such an ass, With each day and night we spent together, I got to know and like you more. You restored my faith in humanity again, but what the fuck do I know?-Sam
All that being said it was still an enjoyable read. It was fast pace, had some hot sexy time, a yummy boxer, a sassy reporter, besties girl time, and some sweet dates. I just would have liked more and maybe an epilogue. I would read more from this author and this series!

4.75 she made a difference stars
This is the highest rating i have given to any novella i have read so far...and this one deserves it to the pin point!
My demands for a joyous reading of a novella are based on covering all the aspects that rule in this literal form and here they were almost all reached and fulfilled...
and in this case I simply wanted another glimpse into the future of the characters' lives...
Other than that, this was surprisingly refreshing read concerning the approach in bringing out the storyline, and the writing style that simply flows effortlessly, specifically emphisizing the profiles of the characters, which is so hard to do in a novella where you are limited by number of pages and the very same stipulations of the mentioned literal form.
It has every segment implemented at the right pace, at the right time...
The untipical asshole boxer for a hero, that turned out to be a masked hardened and hard working driven man dedicated to his profession and love for boxing...and practically nothing else, until one night it all fell down, when he lost his first fight EVER...
Too bad a man who looked like that had the personality of a Tasmanian devil.
he' s known for never giving an interview in his entire career, until she imposed herself, the writer for a magazine that has been asigned to write an article about the said boxer....and she has to make him change his mind.
Goddamn, she was a piece of work, violent and demanding, like an army general, and he fucking loved it.
But the only thing he wants from her that would make worth of his time is the only thing she s not willing to put out...no matter how tempting and torturous the pulling chemistry between them is...
With a change of approach, fresh tactics and humorous banter and sexually charged bickering between them,
Sorry, I don't know what got into me.
So far, nothing got into you, babe, but we'll change that.
well one can only put up with much...lol
Who is it?
Me
Me, who? she asked, unable to keep from smiling.
You know damn well who it is.
she will not only change his answer regarding the interview but the change will take on the risk of altering both of their lives...for the better, but not before some doubtful clouds blur the judgement based on uncertainy rather than the warming feeling that's engulfing them both.
Boxing was his life, always had been, and that was in jeopardy now. He had to focus his energy on making that right again.
Letting Sam disturb his life would only complicate things. He couldn't train and try to win again while being distracted by her.
BUT his resistance was actually futile cause
He was addicted to her, he was sure of it.
but he still manages to mess things up with the old assholery ways...when she tries to make him see, that there's more to him...than what he's trying to show...
I gave you a glimpse into the life you missed out on, Trent, but I don't know why I bothered. I was right the first time we met. You really are an asshole.
With each day and night we spent together, I got to know and like you more. You restored my faith in humanity again, but what the fuck do i know
there's nothing more thrilling out there like a little bit of groveling...cause basically when the realization hits him full front, he'll stake his claim, this time for the right reasons.
Babe, I wanna do everything with you.
Why?
You made me feel, babe...I'm so fucking crazy about you...
Spot on, Trent, spot on! *wink*
Those were only a few highlights from the Trent Page's and Sam Wellington's story, which I've enjoyed immensly in. And since this was my first read by author Mila Rossi it most certainly won't be the last one.

Going the Distance (No Excuses #1)
This was an extremely fun and steamy read! Mila’s writing style is gorgeous and I connected with her characters immediately. The story is absolutely interesting so it’s no surprise that I’ve read it in one sitting. Trent and Sam are both very complex characters who have been through a lot and the chemistry between them is phenomenal. I loved getting to know them both more and I was rooting for them throughout this whole book, of course. Sam is such a great character… I mean, she listens to Aaliyah, that’s surely a bonus point!
Overall, this is a great, short read, perfect for everyone who is looking for some fun for, let’s say, a rainy Friday night.

I had high hopes for this one. The blurb made it sound right up my alley. Unfortunately, it just didn't end up being that great for me.
My main problem was Trent himself. He was such a HUGE self-centered egotistical douchenoodle at the start that I was already over him five minutes after being introduced to him. But I continued on hoping that we would see some character growth and I would warm up to him. That never happened. He pretty much stayed the same self-centered asshole through the whole book.
Nothing he did made me think this guy wanted the heroine for more than a f@ck. Even the sex scenes screamed lay of the day. This wasn't helped by the lack of time these two characters spent together. Three dates, two f@cks, where he basically left while she was sleeping and ignored her for days/weeks. Then after not hearing from him for months he shows up at her door at the end saying I want forever with you I was like WTF?
Now that said, this DID have the bones to be a really great story and I think the story had a lot of potential. The relationship between the H/h just needed to be fleshed out more and maybe a little more character growth from the hero would have been nice.
Going the Distance (No Excuses #1)
Once you slap the hell out of the light heavyweight champion of the world on the night of his first loss, how do you convince him to give you an interview? That’s the dilemma Samantha Wellington finds herself in after turning down the most desirable yet foul-mouthed athlete she’s come across. Unfortunately for her, her job depends on getting his interview and this boxer’s not talking.
When Trent “The Punisher” Page is humiliated by the spunky reporter, then cornered for an interview, he does what he does best: he plays dirty. He didn’t earn his nickname for being nice, after all. If the little minx wants to know more about him, she’ll have to pay with the one thing she’s not willing to give - herself.
Her elements of surprise meet their match in his determination to succeed. With vastly different motivations, can they break down the enemy without jeopardizing themselves? Going the Distance (No Excuses #1)

This is the story of Sam and Trent!
This is a difficult book to write a review for because it is a short story and there was no actual development of the characters or the situations. This is not the first time I read a short story but this is one felt kind of off. The plot was nice but it felt rushed and swallow. The characters had no dimension if I take into consideration their past. And I couldn't feel their connection. I get it that Trent was hot and Sam was foxy but it didn't feel enough to me. The actual issue for me was the pace of the book. Everything moved really fast.
On the positive side, the interactions of Sam and Trent were nice. There was tension and action. The story was written by a dual POV and it was nicely done.
I honestly believe that if this story was an extended book, it would have been so much better. Going the Distance (No Excuses #1) https://romanticcynicblog.wordpress.c...

This was an ok romance between a boxer and a reporter.
Random Ramblings:
•Wow, the H was a douche
•Enjoyed the ice-skating scene
•Had more ‘telling’ than ‘showing’ in the writing style
•Were they alone in the cinema…if they weren’t it was unpleasant
Overall Feeling:
Didn’t feel the emotional connection with the characters
Going the Distance (No Excuses #1) DNF @ 35%
I really tried. There are so many things wrong with the hero. He is such a douche, I just can't warm up to him. Every second word coming out of his mouth is either a swear word or some come-on towards the heroine which is always a reference to fucking the heroine. He thinks he is god's gift to women and I just can't see how the heroine starts falling for him. They haven't even had a serious talk yet. And honestly, a hero saying I know you didn't ask me to be a good boy. I'm The fucking Punisher doesn't do much for me....
I really wanted to like this but this time it was the hero who broke it for me. Going the Distance (No Excuses #1) Samantha is desperate to get an exclusive interview with Trent Paige, a world champion boxer. A man she recently slapped across the face in a night club.
This guy shys away from all reporters and keeps himself out of the public eye as much as possible. If Samantha could convince him to open up to her it would be the making of her career. However, their first meeting did not end well so she needs to think outside the box to coax him into even considering talking to her.
She already has her own thoughts and opinion of him but as she sets out to change his mind about sharing some of himself with his fans, she learns there is much more to this man than she realised. He has been so focused on his career that he has missed out on the simple things in life. Through Samantha he begins to think differently about his life and the impact he can make on others, instead of closing himself off.
This is a great friends to lovers story that can be enjoyed in one sitting.
