Creature of the Light (Broken Thing, #2) By D.E. Chapman

D.E. Chapman Ï 4 Read

Nothing is as it seems.

May has finally learned the truth of her existence and it’s not what she expected. As a creation of science, her life isn’t her own, her body a mere vessel for the future. Being mated to five of the world’s strongest Alpha’s solidifies her purpose; to produce alphas and omegas to repopulate society.

With the next generation currently in her womb, she remains safely tucked away in her den, learning of the world. She’s forced to undergo invasive tests that monitor the wellbeing of her young, or so the doctors claim. Her mates prepare her for life up top. But the more she learns of the world outside her den, the more uncertain she grows about leaving the confines of her underground sanctuary.

May begins to question whether she and her young will survive the omega starved beasts on the surface or if they’ll fall prey to the crazed masses. But the bigger question becomes, is she willing to risk it all just to see the sun for the first time?

*Warning: this omegaverse is intended for readers over 18 for violence and steamy scenes! This is a reverse harem series where the main character ends up with more than one mate at the end of the series. Creature of the Light (Broken Thing, #2)

This novel had quite a few typos which detracted from my ability to enjoy the story somewhat. However, the characterization of the heroine and five heroes, in addition to the skillful development of the romantic relationships between these characters was well enough done that I was still able to enjoy this romance even with the poorly written and executed plot and world building. This novel is the second half of a duology which ended on a Happy Ever After ending, so that is a plus for readers who dislike cliffhanger endings. Both novels are currently out to they can be read one after the other. I would characterize this novel as a dystopian romance instead of a dark romance, since the five heroes of this novel behave in heroic ways and do not do double duty as the villains of this novel. A somewhat rough but still enjoyable m/f omegaverse romance.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. D.E. Chapman I really enjoyed this story of May and her Alpha's. The confusion that May feels at times is palpable. The reader is anxious and confused along with the character.
This is a reverse harem story and it was well written.
DE Chapman's books seem to get better and better as I read them. D.E. Chapman Received Updated ARC from BookSprout for Honest
I Give this Book a 3/5 Star Rating.

This is Omegaverse, if you don’t know what it is, please take the time to look it up before you judge this book. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s DEFINITELY Mine.

This is a Dark Post Apocalyptic Omegaverse.

HEA(?): Yup.
Heat: 3.5/5
Suspense: 3.5-4/5
Drama: 4/5
Dark(?): I Personally don’t think so but the overtone is so I’ll give it a 1.5/5, will list as Dark Lite.
Relationship Type: Reverse Harem

Let me just with, you must read Creature of the Dark first. I must say that I wasn’t fully satisfied with this read, May was rather boring in this book.
The Males weave in and out of the book, they all felt not as important, yet they were.

The flow didn’t feel right and everything kinda felt stagnant, and I can’t deny I got a bit bored.
I was hoping this was going to be darker but it really isn’t. And near the 75% the story picks up pace and then become to fast of a read, everything is to easily resolved in a not logical manner.

May honestly didn’t do much in the book, I was expecting well...MORE from her to be stronger, put big strong alphas in their place Lol or be adorably defiant but it never really happens and and I was a bit disappointed she never truly spoke.
The pregnancy takes 95% of the book, and the babies were rushed and even though they are mentioned a bit, it’s too fast paced to take even a second to enjoy them.

This is an ok read but I was honestly expecting to make this a 5/5, but it didn’t even come close sadly.
But I will always enjoy book 1.

I truly believe this should’ve been a Trilogy rather than a Duet, too much information was introduced into this book only in the end to just unimportant.

Alpha & Omega behavior was clear in this book, but didn’t seem accurately placed and a lot of the true behavior.. well you were just given a glimpse of it and then it was over.
I’m a major fanatic for nesting being in Omegaverse books cause it is an important trait, but I wasn’t satisfied with the slight repetitiveness of the nesting scenes themselves, they just felt weirdly put in cause that’s mainly where she’s at in the book.

A lot of questions aren’t answered, which I found a bit confusing.
And essentially your in a room mostly all the time, I would’ve like to have seen her first moments at experiencing things outside.
Despite this review I am familiar with The authors writing and I will read more from her :) D.E. Chapman I really enjoyed reading this story. I had to skim the last book in this series to refresh myself what it was about since its been so long ago that I read it. I have to say that overall I did enjoy the whole series. But there was also some things that I was not all that happy with. One being the secrets the Alphas were keeping from this Omega. I also have to say that while I normally enjoy the growls and purrs that alphas use to sooth omegas, I really didn't enjoy most of them in this series. These alphas used those growl and purrs so sooth the omega when she usually had a legitimate reason to be upset or scared on top of them keeping secrets from her about what was going on. I also strongly dislike the way they betrayed this omega. I know the bond between Alpha and Omega is strong.. but I think she trusted them entirely too easily after they betrayed her trust. D.E. Chapman Was not expecting how this story would have turned out. May learns how to adjust to life outside of her den and what she has known. She learns the mystery of her life, how she came to be and why she knows of things even if though she had no memories of learning them. All her alphas, Clay, Zerk, Vale, Ryker and Lorcan works to make their relationship/family unit work. They are willing to do what they must to keep May and their whelps safe, even if that means from the same organization they are a part of.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although, my one grip is that other than the two words she spoke, May doesn't say anything at all, LOL. She relies on her instincts and is able to get her feelings and thoughts across to her alphas. Lorcan was a nice surprised, especially in why he was the way he was. He did his part to get back into her good grace. I also loved that the alphas followed their instincts and went against what was originally planned. Their need to care for her and their young trumped the bigger world issue. A very good series and well worth the read. D.E. Chapman

Creature

May was created to be bred by the alphas. The alphas were part of the experiment to repopulate the world with omegas and alphas. They all learned that many babies were being killed because they were either betas or infertile omegas. They were afraid that there children would be used for breeding until they were dead. They killed most of the experiment workers, then escaped to live a life of freedom for the children.

The first couple of chapters were intriguing, then it stopped making any real logical sense.

I could only imagine the cost it would take to engineer May, not a small thing I'm sure. Then to have something so precious and “rare” and force her to live in squalor and isolation. We all know the impact this has on a being, thank you covid.

Also for her to just “know “ stuff with out learning or interactions or anything just felt lazy. So did the dialogue, no one talks like this.

I can imagine that later on we’re supposed to like the Alpha’s but seriously how? They’re literally okay with treating her like an animal and RAPING her.
Only one guys seems to have a problem with it but does it anyway.
D.E. Chapman Man I wish it was a little longer. I feels like as soon as it starts getting good it was over. There was so much anticipation about the greedy corporation and what was going on in the outside world that it kinda feel flat once all was said and done. I enjoyed the epilogue, but the build up to it was a let down. I didn't understand that if they were all the remaining Alphas or not or how the rest of the world found out about what the corporation was doing if they destroyed all the records. I don't know if I missed something or not.

I still like the premise and did enjoy the story

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. D.E. Chapman May discovered the truth of her creation and purpose to replenish the dwindling Omega and Alpha population. There was barely any actual romance despite the many sex scenes. May didn't really do anything to advance the plot and never really spoke. A passive heroine if there ever was one. A few grammatical errors. The guys weren't given many areas to explore their personalities. Could barely tell one from the next. Book could've been longer and storyline better fleshed out. Despite those problems, it wasn't a terrible read. D.E. Chapman This is an intriguing post-apocalyptic omegaverse romance with some dark undertones & an enjoyable read. The plot is intriguing with some suspenseful situations with good scene descriptions & world building. The characters are fairly well-developed & at times inclined to be confrontational and/or protective.
There is: omegas, alpha, betas, mates, drama, intrigue, twists & turns, action, danger, attacks, threats, devious plans, discoveries, unethical experiments, atrocities, confrontation, death, destruction, decisions, steam scenes contentment & a well-deserved satisfying conclusion.
