Bluford High returns with two new books! This widely acclaimed teen series set in an urban high school features engaging, accessible writing and appealing, contemporary storylines.
Martin Luna's world is crumbling. A fight threatens to end his sophomore year at Bluford High, and at home, things are even worse. Frankie, the most feared bully from his neighborhood, is hunting him, and Martin doesn't know who he can turn to. Alone and with time running out, Martin makes a desperate decision. But will it save or destroy him? Bluford High #11: The Fallen
I read the book, “The Fallen” by Paul Langan. This book is part of the Bluford Series. I enjoyed reading this book and I enjoy reading this series as well. The series gives me a taste of what life is like for other types of kids my age. I have not been able to witness the kind of childhood these kids have to grow up in. In this story, Martin Luna is the main character. Martin is beat up by a kid named Frankie for giving the police information about him. Martin’s head is hurt severely, and the doctor tells him that any other blows to the head could leave permanent damage. Frankie shot and killed Martin's little brother, Huero. Frankie is coming back to attack him again when Martin goes to police to get help. The police don't help him though. He ends up fighting Frankie and the final chapter of the book determines his future at Bluford High. He has a hearing with the School Board and they rule him able to continue to attend school at Bluford. Martin believes Huero was looking down on him from heaven and giving him help.
The main character of this story is Martin. Martin is a high school student who has had a troubled past. He has been in lots of trouble and has had to transfer to many different schools. The other characters are Huero, Frankie, and Ramirez. Huero was Martin's younger brother who was shot and killed by Frankie. Frankie is a leader of a gang who wants to get back at Martin. Ramirez is the police officer who helps Martin with Frankie.
The setting of this story is mostly at Bluford High School where all of the characters attend school. The school is set in a not so good part of the city. The author seems to not focus on describing the setting but more of the atmosphere. I would say this story took place about fifteen to twenty years ago.
The theme of this story is the way your life ends up depends on the choices you make. Mr. Mitchell, Martin's teacher, tells him this in class one day and Martin realizes he is right at the end of the story.
I would recommend this story to any middle school or high school male reader. This story gives a student a look at what other kids have to deal within their lives. I enjoyed reading this book. It kept me on my toes and made me want to keep reading. Paul Langan
This was a good book. I thought it was well thought out and planned. It shows how some kids have very hard childhoods and how life can be in the “hood”.
The plot of this book was a kid was in a gang and one of the members got in a fight with someone and crippled him for life. That man’s brother, Hector, tried to kill the gang member but missed and shot Martin’s (the main character) little brother. The gang was going to go back and kill Hector, but Martin didn’t want to because it was Franky’s (the gang member) fault and he was angry at him. Martin was very mad at Franky, but when he decided he didn’t want to go through with the plan Franky wanted to hurt him. Franky beat up Martin and Martin decided to tell the police someone was going to kill Hector. The police figured out that he was talking about Franky. Franky found out that Martin told the police and was going to try to kill him. One day Martin was home alone and Franky came with two of his friends to kill him. Although his two friends were closer to Martin so even when they saw him they didn't tell Franky. Franky didn't trust either of them so he went in a room where one of them checked and Martin was waiting for him with a bat. When Franky came into the room Martin broke his right arm that was holding a gun. Franky shot into the ground and dropped the gun and Martin kicked it away. The gunshot got the police on the scene so they were already on their way.
I would recommend this book to teenage boys. I think that they will like it more than any other age and more than girls because it is about the life of a certain teenage boy.
Paul Langan My book it called The Fallen. And if you like realistic fiction you should read this book! Its a pretty good book with lots of drama but its not my favorite. Its a book with lots of emotions. This book can teach some life lessons....
Moving to many different schools , Martin has now moved to Bluford High School because of his behavior. This takes place during the present time. Martin is a student who is dealing with a lot of depression. After his brother Huero died he has changed a lot. He has had got into many fights with other students and even a teacher!!!Martin has been expelled! His mother is under a lot of depression and is know dealing with this too. After a while Martin and a group of friends are going to get revenge on the man who shot Huero. But a friend of Martins,Frankie(also is like the main leader)got into a huge argument and now wants to fight. So martin needs to figure out a way to get revenge on his own. And i,m pretty sure its hard to get revenge when your friends are against you. So Martin is still depressed. Martin keeps on being depressed because of his brother death and its adding to the problem of the story. His depression is affecting the story because it's not letting him think straight about the choices he will make. This is leading up to person vs.self. When Martin decides he has to let go of his brother death he does the right thing to forget about getting revenge. As for school he found out that the principal has gave him a second chance of getting expelled. And Martin and his mother are full of happiness once and for all....
I have to to say my favorite part of the book was when Martin got a second chance in school and didn't get expelled. I liked this because it makes the reader know how it feels to get a second chance and the relief it shows on Martin. An interesting thing I learned from this book was that sometimes people need to move on from the people they love. I learned from this because I have experienced the depression of someone dieing.
The character changed a lot in the story. I know this because in the beginning of the story Martin was depressed and was letting it out by fighting and showing violence. Martin didn't even care if he got in trouble or did something wrong. But know that he has learned that life is not easy and he needs to move on,he is happy that he has changed. I thought the ending of this book was great because he finally find out how to let go of depression.
In conclusion I rated this a 4 star book because it was a book I liked a lot. I like this book a lot because it makes the reader feel as if they were in the book them selves, with all its emotion and drama that happened during the events in the story. I would recommend this book to any people who like drama and who like a little action. So if you want to read an interesting book with drama and some action read... The Fallen
Paul Langan The Bluford series is the GREATEST BOOK SERIES OF ALL TIME! Everyone one NEEDS to read all the books in the series. No joke this book is the greatest piece of fiction ever made to this day. I cannot exclaim how great this book is. This book is unfathomablely amazing, it baffles me how a single person cannot resist reading this book. This book is like a magnet that attracts everything in it's vicinity. Bluford is not just a book, it's life. It's love. Paul Langan Have you ever read a book that just keeps you wondering to find out what's gonna happen next? The Fallen will get you too excited and will teach you something you might not know. This book is filled with emotions and drama and a young boy named Martin trying to get threw high school.
In The Fallen there's a boy named Martin who's in Bluford High School and who going threw allot. Just about a week ago his little brother Huero got shot and Martins mom going threw depression. He's about to get suspend from school. Martin best friend, Frankie wants revenge on who every shot Huero as much as martin does, but the problems basically go on.
I understood why Martin was mad because his brother died but i didn't understand why he took it out on everybody like for example this girl named Vicky because Martin really likes her and they were doing good but then Martin got into one fight and he pushed her away like when you push the scraps of food on your plate into the garbage. At like the middle of the story i understood why Martin pushed Vicky away because he didn't want Vicky to get caught up like he was. My favorite part was when Martin started to act more friendly instead of antisocial because it made him seem like the bad guy in the story but really when Martin was lost and trying to find who he was and when he did i was very happy.
I rated the book a 5 because i love the Bluford series, it my second life. Am married to these books / they bae. I would recommend this book to people who like a good action drama book and a good life lesson. Now the book maybe ending but the series goes on!!!!!!!!

Martin Luna is a 16-year-old boy who goes to Bluford High. He has many demons haunting him: the guilt of his brother's death and his mother's anguish, friends who are turning into enemies, and his own overpowering anger. Martin must deal with his emotions and try to do the right thing as events unfold in the story.
This is my second time reading this book and I absolutely love it. Martin is faced with many obstacles and sometimes he acts irrationally. However, I admire him because, in the end, he did the right thing. For most of the story, he is very misunderstood because he doesn't know how to speak up about his feelings and about what is going on in his life. All Martin needed was to know he had a good friend and that people were counting on him. I enjoyed this story a lot. I recommend it to people who like to read realistic fiction. Paul Langan It is a okay book it could be better. Its about a high school boy that gets expelled from school for fight all the time so him and his mom lost his younger brother so that kind of made him change his life around since then but on day in school he sticks up for his friend so he gets into a fight with his teacher. He get told that he's getting expelled and he didn't want to get expelled because he actually liked bluford high school. So his mom is upset at him. His friends now enemy's broke into his house while his mom was gone in the middle of the night read the book to find out what happens then... Paul Langan The book, The Fallen by Paul Langen is worth reading. The situation the Martin went through had a happy ending. He was brave because he never backed down from Frankie, even though he was coming to kill him. It was intense because when they broke into his house, it was all dark and he was hiding. He saw his buddy and signaled him to not to say anything, then Frankie stepped towards him, he hit him in his hurt arm with a bat, then the cops, and his mom came. He reinstated back into Bluford High.
Paul Langan The Fallen is like the sequence to Brothers in Arms. The main character again here is Martin Luna. He now attends Bluford High. WHile he is there he finds out who kills his brother. But instead of trying to get back at him as he planned before with Frankie, he tells the police. Frankie doesn't want to accept it, so he has problems with Frankie. The only person thats got Martin's back is Chago. After a confrontation with Frankie, he gets into a fight with him he tells the police. After he gets in a fight with Steve for the last time, he is about to get expelled. But good thing he has Mr. Mitchell and Vicky on his side.
This Book is a very good book to me. I think the message/purpose for this book is to say that..dont let one thing bring you down, to always keep your head up. This message was delivered easily to me. Just like all the Bluford Series books, this is another touching and emotional books. This can actually bring you to tears, espaeacially when he reminises on his little brother. The main strenghts of these books is that they express things clearly and sequence the plot. The main thing that i dont like about this book is that basically it is a repeat of Brothers In arms, but that this book has more sequence and more events happening. Brothers in Arms and The Fallen are two books that have made me change the way about what i feel about reading. Paul Langan The book the fallen is the sequal for th ebook Brothers in arms. The book still uses all of the characters in its old book. Martin is still the main character to th e boook. The book talks about how things have been for Martin after he stayed at bluford. He was tried to stay away from where he used to live because frankie and his old friends are always there. Frankie and Martin still dont talk to each other. Martin is trying to do good so he and his mom can live a better life. He is still hanging around with Vicky who he likes. They have become closer friends and Martin wants to be a better person for her and his mom
Later on in the book Martin is starting to have troubles again with boys from his school that dont like him and he is starting to argue like he used to when he first moved. One day Martin is walking the streets and Frankie is out with his friends and and they see Martin. Frankie still hates MArtin for backing down the day when they where going to go kill the guy that killed Martins borther Huero. When they saw him Frankie got of the car and was about to shot Martin. But he didnt. One day Martin was home alone and Frankie and his boys went to his house while he was alone. Frankies boys had once been MArtins friend they stiill where but they couldnt say that because Frankie would get them. Frankie went to his house and tiold him that he was going to pay for wha he had done and how he had back down. The boys that where with Frankie told him not to do any thing to Martin but he wouldn tlisten. Frankie and Martin began to fight and MArtin hit Frankie in the arm with a bat. The police was coming to his house and they the boys that where with Frankie told him to forget about it and to leave before the police came. Frankie wouldnt listen but at the end he left. The police was still looking for him.
