Aliens in Disguise (Intergalactic Bed and Breakfast, #3) By Clete Barrett Smith

Rating 3.5 This is such a fun series and I love the disasters that go wrong while Grandma is away. Looking after these aliens is like herding cats. There's quite a bit of humor here and it may even be my favorite of the series. 9781469219165 Well, the first book in this series I enjoyed, though not epically, while the second one I really thought was pretty awesome. So how does the third and final book stack up?

Well, sad to say this one doesn't take the story in any new directions. While the writing was still fun for those that enjoyed the first two, this was mostly a step back. It just didn't have the same epicness the second one had, and not even as strong a plot as the first. It was kinda like a weak tea plot wise I guess. But with that said it was still a fun side story about characters that I do enjoy. I just feel a little disappointed that the final book in this trilogy was used for a story this light. I just would have liked more.

Anyway, all in all this was still a fun series to read, and the second book will always stand out as being pretty sweet. 9781469219165 David is again spending the summer at his grandmother's Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast. When Grandma wins a big award and goes off-planet, Tate fears for her safety and follows her. This leaves David and Amy in charge of the B&B. Together they must find a missing alien child before the rest of the town does, and figure out who is this mystery couple that keeps showing up. Are they up to the challenge? Can they keep everything running smoothly until Grandma gets back? Recommended for readers who enjoyed the first two books in the series. Grades 3-7. 9781469219165 Read the review at: Aliens in Disguise 9781469219165 Very good! Solid story, a few missteps here & there but all in all a worthy read. 9781469219165

David is having the summer of his life at his grandmother’s Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast, an inn for vacationing aliens. By now even the slimiest tourists don’t faze him, and he has all of security officer Tate’s safety procedures down pat. In fact, David thinks it’s about time the grown-ups entrusted him and his friend Amy with even more responsibility.

David and Amy get their big break when Grandma is invited to travel long-distance to accept an award and Tate decides to follow her. Running the B&B should be a breeze for two kids who saved the universe just a few weeks ago. But soon David and Amy are faced with some inconveniences, such as a lost alien, a pair of gate-crashers, and a potential horde of UFO-watchers descending on the inn. In other words, it’s an ordinary day.

Check in to the Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast for another kooky comedy featuring an assortment of hapless humans and awesome aliens. Aliens in Disguise (Intergalactic Bed and Breakfast, #3)

The other day something came up that made me think about this book series again. I read this book series more than 5 years ago when I was around 10 years old. My fifth grade teacher recommended them to me and I remember loving them so so much. So much that I decided to email the author. To my surprise he actually responded! I was able to get into my old email and find the email correspondence we had.

This is the message I sent him:
Hi, My name is Max. I've have read your books on The Intergalactic Bed and Breakfast, I loved your books! I am apart of a book club in my elementary school. I would love if you would answer a few of my questions.

1. Have you always wanted to be an author?
2. Any Advice for kids who want to be authors?
3. What is the Best part of being a author?
4. How long did it take you to write your books?
5. What gave you the idea for your stories?

Thank You!!!!!

And here is his response:

Hey Max!

Thanks for your email. I’m glad you liked the stories!

1. Yep, ever since 2nd grade when I read The Chronicles of Narnia.

2. Write stories. Enter writing contests. Read. Read. Read. Write some more stories.

3. The best part of being an author is getting emails from cool kids like you who enjoyed my stories!

4. It usually takes me 6 months to write a first draft and then 6 months to revise (with my writing group and my editor). So a full book takes about a year.

5. I love Star Wars, but I thought that aliens must do something when they are not fighting each other! So I started to wonder: What would aliens do for fun. And that’s when I started to wonder where they would go on vacation.

Thanks again for getting in touch!

I remember being so thrilled when he responded and looking back now, years later, I really appreciate how Clete Smith took time out of his day to respond. And you could tell he was super genuine.

Just thought I’d share this...

P.S. The books are also super good!

9781469219165 My 10 yr old daughter picked this book out at the library because I told her it was time to go and she just quickly and randomly picked it off the shelf. She ended up loving it! That surprised us both. 9781469219165 In this third installment in the series that began with Aliens on Vacation, young David and Amy, the girl he would like to kiss, get the opportunity to prove that they are ready to run the Intergalactic Bed and Breakfast without adult supervision. It happens when David's grandma (who runs the hostel for alien tourists) wins an award and gets swept off on an all-expenses-paid trip to a pleasure planet in another galaxy, and Amy's dad (the b&b's security chief) runs off to protect her and gets trapped on a all-species-welcome singles cruise. The kids would have everything under control, if it weren't for a class full of misbehaving alien brats, a group of artists who can't keep their rainbows contained, and a couple of earthlings who are determined to crack the secrets of the b&b.

Fans of the series will probably best remember this book as the one in which the kids and their extraterrestrial guests mount a daring rescue of one of their own by parading through town, pretending to be science-fiction fans disguised as aliens. But the disguise theme cuts the other way, as a loopy couple of UFO hunters tries to pass as Mr. and Mrs. E.T. and later, many of the characters attempt another costume act that you have to read to believe. The weirdness is funny and the humor is weird, and a bit of youthful romance makes a nice garnish to a very light but charming adventure in the often overlooked hospitality side of science fiction.

Besides this trilogy, which also includes Alien on the Rampage, Clete Barrett Smith is also the author of Magic Delivery (about a load of magical Halloween costumes that turn the wearers into whatever they are pretending to be) and Mr. 60% (about a high school drug dealer with a heart of gold). I'm reading the former right now. But I wouldn't mind seeing more books in this series, populated with goofy aliens, goofier humans and two very resourceful kids. 9781469219165 Grandma has won an award as the best hotelier in the galaxies which means she must go through the transporter to accept the award. Head of Security Tate goes haring after her when he misinterprets a message and thinks she is in danger. That leaves 13 year old David and Amy in charge of the Tourists at the Intergalactic Bed and Breakfast. The aliens aren't the problem; the Maxwells, leader of a UFO group, are trying to prove to their followers that aliens have visited Earth and are vacationing at the B.& B. It's up to David and Amy to convince them to look elsewhere. I liked the aliens in this story, particularly the children on a field trip - Kanduu, Kandeel, the slime boys, etc. The Blob was quite funny as well. All of them made comments on the human condition and pegged us Earthlings quite well. 9781469219165 David and Amy are enjoying their summer working at the Intergalactic Bed and Breakfast. David's Grandma runs the place and really enjoys hosting alien tourists in small town Washington. She is so good at her job that she wins an award from the Hoteliers Association and gets to finally travel to the stars. Head of Security Tate follows her which leaves David and Amy in charge. Things are fine except for the couple that keeps snooping around and trying to pose as aliens. David and Amy have to take care of the B&B, make sure the tourists are happy and keep the snoopers from discovering their secret.

This was a fun book to read. I didn't realize it was part of a series until they kept alluding to previous adventures. I think kids will really enjoy the humor of this one and the kids in charge aspect. David and Amy are smart and innovative. They are able to think their way out of all the situations they find themselves in. 9781469219165
