Texas – So, you’ve succeeded in rationing out those stouts and winter warmers you were hoarding since fall. Now it’s on to lighter weather, and lighter brews. With rising temps making it harder to crave rich, heavy-bodied beers, we have a selection of less-filling options that still deliver on the flavor front. These are the Texas beers that will carry you through the spring. Click here for the full article I wrote on the Thrillist.

big texas beer fest

Dallas – This weekend, the annual Big Texas Beer Festival is returning to the Fair Park for one of the biggest two day beer festivals in the state. With over 500 beers from 140 breweries, the Big Texas Beer Festival has become one of the most popular and celebrated festivals. Over the years, the festival has helped raise almost $40K for North Texas Food Bank while also helping to spread awareness about craft beer. This year they will have over 50 local breweries represented and it is a great chance to check out what is brewing near you. Tickets are still available but you better hurry since it kicks off Friday night. If you can’t make it up north this weekend, they will host the Big Texas Beer Fest Houston on May 21st. SABW

San Antonio – This Saturday, San Antonians will be spend the next eight days celebrating craft beer at events throughout the city.  The 6th Annual San Antonio Beer Week starts Saturday at 4:30pm at Main Plaza in front of the San Fernando Cathedral, followed by closing ceremonies on Sunday April 10th at the historic Lonestar Brewery. There are a bunch of great events going on from a small beer festival and a beer brunch to Doughnut Beer Pairings and Pub Crawls. Be sure to hit up a few of the events. Be sure to check out the 6th Annual Sweet and Sour Soiree which pairs sour beers and sweet cupcakes. It has been a very popular event every year so you better get tickets before they are all gone. Click here for all of the SABW information.

New Braunfels

New Braunfels – One of the best things about living in this great state is that when someone is in need, Texans stand up to lend a hand. Last week, Kelly and Lindsey Meyer the owners of New Braunfels Brewing Company lost their home to a fire. Luckily everyone got out safe but as anyone can imagine, losing a house is devastating. The great people at Guadalupe Brewing Company have stepped out to help their local brewers and they will be hosting a fundraiser on Friday from 4-9pm. All beer sales proceeds will go directly to the Meyer family as well as funds raised from the silent auction and donation jar. Our thoughts are with the Meyer family through this difficult time and hats off to Guadalupe Brewing Company for organizing this great event. Click here for more information.

As always, if you’re looking to get out this weekend we suggest you visit a local brewery, don’t forget that we have a list of all of the breweries near you so head over to the Breweries and Brewpubs page and go support your local brewers.
