This week in, The Brew! What happened to 2015? That year flew by quick and here we are in 2016. We are ready to get back to business and we are starting the year off with lots of new. This week, we tell you how you will be crawling in Austin, chowing down and drinking up on the coast, rallying for a friend in San Antonio, breaking big news from Austin and give you the heads up about the next book signing. Check it out now in this week’s edition of, The Brew!
Austin – The Saint Arnold Brewing Company is rolling into town with another one of their marathon pub crawls. Don’t worry, this isn’t a real marathon but you will need to prepare yourself for a long afternoon of bar hopping along Rainey St as they hit 5 bars along the event, ending with an after party at Craft Pride. The event is free with the exception of paying for your own beers and kicks off Saturday afternoon at noon. These are always fun events and you can usually expect a big turnout. Be sure to have fun but most importantly, drink responsibly. Click here for more info.
Galveston – This weekend is the annual Yaga’s Chili Quest & Beer Fest taking place in the Historic Strand District. Along with some award winning chili, the event will feature beer from Texas and beyond. There is nothing really better than hot chili with a cold beer when it is winter in Texas. Tickets start as low as $34 and you will have the opportunity to sample from over 150+ beers. This year’s event benefits the Ronald McDonald House Galveston, so head on out and have fun while supporting a great cause. Click here for tickets and more info.
San Antonio – This Sunday, the San Antonio craft beer community is coming together to rally for Les Locke, the head brewer at Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery. Towards the fall of 2015 he fell into some serious health issues but he is on the road to recovery and we are glad to see him get back to his passion. Les is teaming up with Freetail Brewing at their S. Presa location to host an event to celebrate his health and they are brining other breweries along for this event. All proceeds raised through sales or donations will go directly to the Make A Wish Foundation who will be on site at the event. It takes place Sunday at 2pm. Click here for more info.
Austin – Last year we were all shocked when Dipak Topiwala broke the news that he was parting ways with his family’s establishment, Whip In where he formed Kamala Brewing. It left many wondering what was to come of Whip In and what would happen to Kamala Brewing. This week we go news via Facebook when Dipak announced that he is partnering with Jim Sampson of Twisted X Brewing to establish Kamala Gardens Brewery. They plan to “specialize in complex, small batch beers plus a large scale production facility specializing in approachable, daily beers”. No news yet on what is happening at Twisted X but we will continue to follow for any news. We would like to wish Dipak and Jim all the best of luck in this new endevour and we can’t wait to try their beers. They have not disclosed the location of the new brewery but are currently in the stages of funding. It is likely that we won’t see the brewery until the end of 2016 if not early next year but will keep you informed on any updates.
Houston – I am really excited to announce that next Saturday, Jan 23rd I will be heading to my hometown of Houston to host a book signing for Beer Lover’s Texas at Brazos Bookstore. This is a very special moment for me and I am excited to share the book with my fellow Houston beer lovers. We are bringing along our friends with the new Back Pew Brewing who will be serving samples of their great beer and giving attendees the opportunity to see what they are brewing out in Porter. The event takes place Saturday Jan 23rd at Brazos Bookstore at 7pm. I hope to see you out there. Click here for more info.
As always, if you’re looking to get out this weekend we suggest you visit a local brewery, don’t forget that we have a list of all of the breweries near you so head over to the Breweries and Brewpubs page and go support your local brewers.
