Wrong Number, Right Guy (The Bourbon Street Boys, #1) By Elle Casey
Wrong Number, Right Guy was something unexpected. I picked it on a lark, and I ended up with a good time on my hands.
Funny text mistakes between two sisters Jenny and May had me rolling from page one. For whatever reason, autocorrected text mistakes hit my funny bone, so the mood was set. However, May Wexler and her texting woes are about to get real.
Jenny has ventured out with her pack of kids to buy a new phone. A few hours later a text comes from a number May doesn’t recognize, but she assumes it’s from her sister's recent phone change. The message states that Jenny needs help immediately at Frankie’s Pub. May is stunned. Her sister, the mother of a horde of children, is calling from a biker bar in a rough part of town? This is out of character. Maybe Jenny has finally cracked. A worried May speeds toward the bar, though she can’t imagine how her responsible sibling has arrived at this juncture. May quickly discovers that the text was not from her sister and she is in a whole lot of trouble.
Cute dogs, bad guys, hot men and a ton of action with the Bourbon Street Boys made this quite an enjoyable ride. If you are looking for something light, this could be the book for you!
Fantasy, Romance, Science Fiction Hilarious and sexy! Great read! Fantasy, Romance, Science Fiction Find all of my reviews at: http://52bookminimum.blogspot.com/
Everyone I follow on GR all shelved this as a DNF so OF COURSE that means I’m 5 Starring it . . .
Not even sorry. I loved this stinking book and I’m shouting it from the rooftops!!! This time I even strong-armed Shelby into buddy reading it and she liked it too – proving once and for all that we do indeed read most everything incorrectly.
It all begins with self-employed photographer May’s sister and her broke-ass phone. At her wit’s end with her three young kids and having a saboteur known as Autocorrect making things even worse . . . .
“I need a frign break. Taking the butt strings to the arcade.”
“Butt strings?”
“I meant to say breast sling. Effing autocorrect.”
“Argh! Not breast sling! I’m going to kill the dick who shit on my ass because it’s going all jello.”
“Shit storm! Epic shit storm of autocorrect madness! . . . Please just shit me cow.”
poor Jenny makes getting a smarter phone priority numero uno. Thus begins the biggest misunderstanding in the history of misunderstandings. May thinks some random text she receives is from Jenny asking for a lifeline to help her deal with her butt strings, I mean breast slings, I mean CHILDREN. What’s really happening is a covert op drug deal using code speak, but May doesn’t know that. Instead she thinks her sister is possibly drunk at a seedy bar with her kids in tow and is verbally assaulting her via telecommunications, so she does what any sister would do – sets off to the biker bar in order to give Jenny the boob punch she deserves. Obviously Jenny isn’t there, but Ozzie is.
“He looks like a Duck Dynasty nut ball prepper off the range for a good long while now, but he smells like a metrosexual about to go clubbing.”
Mmmmmm, Ozzie . . . .
Wait, where was I? Oh yeah, no on the boob punch – yes on getting saved by a burly mountain man.
May apparently was dropped on her head as a child because she doesn’t find the beard smex-a-riffic like I did. Whatever May, you are stupid. I mean just look at it . . .
(Sidenote and Confession:
And also this:
I mean seriously. Dear Bilzerian: When you are done being a manbearpigwhoreboy you should totally look me up. We were meant for each other.)
Anyway, long story even longer May might be in danger and is routed to The Most Interesting Man in the World Ozzie’s domicile – which also happens to be the security firm he owns. There May gets more than she bargained for. Things like a job offer to help take surveillance photos and a newly shorn Ozzie . . .
(Shit, Bilzerian are you even serious right now? You can’t be good looking with and without the beard!)
May also discovers she has some sick fighting skills she never knew about . . .
and that she might be just a weeeeee bit attracted to her new boss . . .
“To distract my overly busy brain, I practice casual pickup lines in my head as I wait for his answer:
You look hot in that shirt. Maybe you should take it off.
Do you have a girlfriend? Do you want one?
Sex, I want some. Rawr.”
Which of course means they eventually do some throwing down in the sack . . . and on the couch. And it was DELIGHTFUL! May was soooooooo normal . . .
“He leans back onto the couch again, bringing the bra up to his face. He closes his eyes as he inhales. ‘Smells like your skin.” His eyes open and he smiles. I almost laugh. ‘Creepy.’”
and also . . .
“What are you doing?!” I yell.
“I’m bringing you to bed to give you a spanking.”
“Ohhhh, a spanking. I’d like to see you try.” I left my taser in my purse in his bedroom. If he even thinks about spanking my butt I’m going to light him on fire.”
And although there was only one sexytimes scene, it was totally hawt and . . .
May’s tiny pup Felix even got a piece of the action and a girlfriend named Sahara . . . .
Like I said, this apparently was not a winner for everyone, but if you want a RomCom that is totally adorable with realistic, relatable characters and a female lead with a hilarious inner voice, this is the one for you. Elle Casey, I liked you with Shine Not Burn. I farkin’ HEART you now.

I really wanted to like this one, but it just was not working for me. The heroine was not the brightest crayon in the box, by far and the hero was 'meh' - May was annoyingly dense, and in no way seemed like a 29 year old woman... and Oz didn't have much personality. Unremarkable characters combined with a somewhat silly storyline, Wrong Number, Right Guy left me underwhelmed. I've enjoyed other work by this author, but unfortunately this one was a huge miss for me.

Do you have any idea how long it’s been since I read a book that actually made me laugh out loud? Me neither, but I know it’s been a looooong time.
This is a book that never in a million years would’ve popped up on my radar without the prodding of my mom. She found this book will prowling the Kindle Unlimited store, and called me in near tears, she was laughing so hard. She begged me to read it. I decided to at least read the first chapter, because I could use a laugh. One nearly sleepless night later, I finished the book. It was absolutely fantastic.
I’m not a big romance reader, unless the author is Nora Roberts. She’s my comfort read, and I read her stuff anytime I feel sad or sick, and anytime she publishes something new. Every once in a while I get in the mood for something sweet and uplifting, so I’ll read some kind of Christian romance, but just regular romance not written by Nora is not something I usually pick up. I will now have to make an exception for Elle Casey, because this woman is seriously funny.
This was the story of an average, single, twenty-something woman. She’s a wedding photographer who lives alone with her little half-Chihuahua, Felix. When she gets a text from an unknown number that she assumes belongs to her sister, her life spirals out of control quickly. May, our protagonist, makes the most of her situation and struggles to adapt and become one of the Bourbon Street Boys, an elite security company, while trying not to fall for Ozzie, her super-hot new boss. Hilarity ensues.
I’m not the biggest fan of first-person narration, but nothing else would’ve worked here. You need to be inside May’s head, because her thoughts are laugh-out-loud funny. The story would’ve have been nearly as charming if not told from her perspective. The other characters are interested and endearing, even when they’re being all prickly and hostile toward the new girl. The rest of the series follows the other members of this crew, and you can bet your britches that I’ll be binge-reading the rest. And I never binge read. But I’m making an exception here.
Was there sex, you might be asking as you gaze at the cover. You betcha, there was. But it wasn’t slathered all through the book. And the buildup we witness within the main character was seriously the best part. She’s so real and relatable, and I’m pretty sure every woman fighting against their attraction to a person has shared some of her feelings. But when the sex does occur, it’s hot. Hilariously hot. Seriously, even the sex scenes were filled with humor. What’s not to love about that?
As I said, I would’ve never picked up this book on my own. I would’ve looked at the cover and glanced right over it, looking for the next philosophical fantasy to delve into. And I would’ve been missing out. Every diet needs variety, and it turns out that my literary diet was severely lacking in humor. So, thanks Mama, for expanding my literary horizons, even if that expansion is a little less than literary. Five stars well earned, Elle Casey. Keep ‘em coming. Fantasy, Romance, Science Fiction
3 Mister Crazy Mountain Man Grizzly Bear Person Stars
Yeah. Right. Here, Mister Crazy Mountain Man Grizzly Bear Person, why don't you come on over to my house and murder me in my living room? That sounds like fun.
Wrong Number, Right Guy, the first book for The Bourbon Street Boys Series, was just okay for me. I love Elle Casey and I love her Shine Not Burn Series. So when I seen this book on Netgalley I was so excited to get it, but sadly I couldn't stand the heroine of the book, May. May drove me crazy and it took away from my enjoyment of the book a lot!
Operation Ugly Beard? I ask. Dev laughs and then stops immediately when Ozzie glares at him. Harley, Ozzie says. It's Harley, not ugly beard. I mumble under my breath as I pick up my sweaty towel. Could've fooled me.
May was so immature she acted more like a teenage girl and not 29 year old woman. At times I felt like I was reading a book about a man awkwardly trying to date a high schooler She did some of the ditziest shit. She truly acted silly and teen like when it came to Ozzie, her job, Sex ect.... OMG she blushed at everything. Everything! I just couldn't stand her. Ozzie on the other hand I really liked. I liked his hard, sexy, gruff self. Hell he earned extra awesome points just for putting up with May because I would have washed my hands of her silly ass. I would have liked to see a little more of the hero, a little more of his personality. As far as other characters go in this book I really liked May's sister and I liked Dev. There was some funny parts in this book which helped and the plot was okay. I wish there would have been more romance. Over all an okay book. I will most likely read the next book in this series to see if it gets better.
One more. Come on-you can do it. Push it! I already did one more! I huff and puff as the weights dangle from my limp arms. Everything burns. Everything. Even my butt muscles are on fire. You aren't tapped out. Come on-I see one more in your eyes. Lift. What you see in my eyes is a death threat.

Fantasy, Romance, Science Fiction DNF @ 77%
I really hate to DNF an Elle Casey book because I have read several books by her and they have been hits. However, this one was sadly a full blown miss for me. In fact, by the halfway point, I was forcing myself to keep going and skimmed as far as I got reluctantly.
I loved the start of the story and the cover. I loved that both hero and heroine dogs were instrumental throughout because they were so very cute. The heroine’s sister was really likable character as well but the heroine was annoying as hell and the hero was dull and flat. The writing was going for funny but missed the mark 95 percent of the time on me.
”His body is beyond sculpted. It’s like a Mr. Potato Head workout body. Clip-on abs, clip-on pecs, clip-on triangle-shaped muscle thingies that go down the front of his pants.”
May runs into Ozzie while getting a wrong directed text and she finds herself in danger as well being offered a job with his security business. Their fall in love was totally lacking luster and even the dialogue wasn’t the author’s best work. The nonstop security talk was a TOTAL bore. While the heroine is twenty-nine years old and doesn’t act anything close to that. I would totally recommend many books by this author but continuing even as far as I got in this story was just painful.Sorry.
Arc provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review Fantasy, Romance, Science Fiction My friend Kelly is on a smexy times reading kick this last week. Something about her anniversary happening and not wanting to spend any money she makes do with the smut-o-rama..I'm sure her husband is smiling about right now.
She suggested I go ahead and get off my ass and read this one with her.
My dog Zoe found out there was some Chihuahua action going on in this book and her ears perked up.
The story starts out with May getting some text messages from what she thinks is her sister's new phone. Her sister is a single, stressed out mom so maybe wanting to meet her at a biker bar wasn't too far fetched. She picks up her trusty sidekick chihuahua Felix and off she goes. Once at the bar shots start flying in the air and a rough looking guy with a beard helps a girl out. I kept picturing the bearded guy like this...
Turns out bearded guy Ozzie ends up getting his cover blown thanks to May so he takes her back to his Batcave, where she finds out that he owns a security company and that the guy cleans up real well.
RAWR!!!!!!
He also has a dog. His is the size of a bus but it's love at first site.
For the dogs.
May is a wedding photographer who likes money so when they offer her a job with the security company making some mega dough taking a few surveillance photos she accepts.
This book is freaking hilarious. May The Meatball Wexler as she would like to be known (She actually gets called Bo Peep) is the perfect female character. She comes off as clueless but who cares? She is so much fun. She is not that female character that everyone keeps mentioning how beautiful she is every five freaking minutes either. I loved her.
I could be her friend. I have a taser! Tasering is fun. (I'm not spoiling!)
The smexy times in this book is more of a slow building burn that was hot as heck when it did happen. No insta-loving in site!
It got me in all kinds of places.
This makes the third Elle Casey book I've read and I've enjoyed every second of her writing. I'm now a fangirl.
My dog Maisy now wants some more doggie smexy times books being written. She is ready to be drawn in the story like a french girl.

Fantasy, Romance, Science Fiction I picked up this Audible book, under my Kindle Unlimited membership, some time ago. It was in the I'll get to it eventually category, with no particular rush. I hadn't heard much about it and I didn't have any expectations. It was a nice surprise to find a funny, cute story with endearing characters.
May, the heroine, was a riot. With her pint-sized dog, Felix, in tow, she was a force to be reckoned with. Her constant misadventures and humorous antics kept me laughing all the way through this story.
When May mistakenly responds to some text messages, she inadvertently places herself in danger. She thinks that she's messaging her sister, but she isn't. Walking into a rough, biker bar looking for her sister, she gets caught in the midst of a shootout.
To her surprise, it's a burly biker that comes to her rescue. Not only does the unkempt man get her out of the bar, but he soon takes responsibility for her safety after the incident. In no time, the two are engaged in a playful, contentious banter.
It ends up that Ozzie was undercover, as part of a work assignment for his security firm. Once the beard is shaved off, he's transformed into the epitome of May's ideal male. Suddenly, she's stumbling over her words and tripping up at every turn. When May accepts a job with Ozzie's company, things get even more entertaining.
Overall, this was a great story. It was action-packed and full of humor. If you're looking for a lighter read, this is a great choice. The audiobook was well done. I didn't have any concerns related to the narration. I give this one 3 1\2 stars. Fantasy, Romance, Science Fiction Wrong Number, Right Guy is book one in the Bourbon Street Boys series by Elle Casey. I sadly have to inform all of my former book boyfriends to move over, there is a new book boyfriend in town, and his name is Ozzie. This book was perfection. It was hilariously funny, sexy, sweet, and just wonderful.
Oh to describe May (Bo Peep) Wexler. She is a photographer but to survive, she is forced to photograph weddings, and family portraits. Even with this, business comes in spurts, and right now is a definite dry spell. She lives alone with her tiny Chihuahua, Felix. To be inside May’s head was a crazy, crazy ride. She constantly struggles with self confidence but makes up for it with pure commitment to whatever she is attempting to do.
On this particular night, she has been texting with her single Mom to three kids sister who is frazzled. A little later on, she receives what she thinks is another text from her sister saying that she is at a biker bar in the bad part of town in New Orleans. What would her sister be doing there with her three kids? So off May goes to rescue her sister with her little dog in her purse. She soon discovers, though, that her sister is not in fact, in the bar, and finds herself smack in the middle of a shoot out, only to be rescued by the hairiest man she has ever seen. The bad guys follow her so May ends up needing to stay the night at the hairy man’s place, only to find out that he is not really a hairy man at all but a very muscular, very handsome, very sexy man.
Meet Ozzie, head of the security firm, Bourbon Street Boys which he runs out of his home. Ozzie lives alone with his huge watchdog, Sahara, who instantly develops a relationship with May’s tiny dog. Ozzie is intimidating and runs his business with an iron fist so to speak. To say he was bowled over by the little tiny woman with the dog in her purse would be an understatement.
May earns the nick name Bo Peep due to her innocent appearance. They all soon learn that even though May has no experience with self defense, she has an uncanny ability to react under stress and defend herself. Once they also learn that she is a photographer, they decide to ask her to join their team. But she will have to train with them, learn self defense tactics, get in shape. Could she really do this for a living? Could she be a part of this would be family?
“It’s like all my life the light switch that is the real me has been turned off, and Ozzie somehow figured out how to turn it on. This is me, the real May Wexler.”
May and Ozzie have some definite chemistry. And once Ozzie relaxes around her, she realizes that the tough guy personality is not Ozzie at all. He is really just a big teddy bear. But he is her boss. Her lack of self confidence has her questioning his every move. But Ozzie is nothing if not patient. The way he gets her to relax was just perfection.
I loved every single page of this book. May was so much fun to get to know. And Ozzie, well, he had me from the beginning. I’m so excited to see what Elle Casey has in mind for the future of this series. You can rest assured that I will first in line waiting for the next book.
