I honestly don't know what to make of this book. On the one hand, it contains fascinating stories, and is an inspiring account of people so devoted to their country and its greatest treasures that many risked everything to protect them. But the book leaves an Wine and War: The French, the Nazis, and the Battle for France#39;s Greatest Treasure I came to this book as a WWII buff and as someone who appreciates wine. Actually, I am of a beer drinker than a wine drinker. I was struck throughout this book by the reverence the French growers had for wine and the poetic heights they reached in describing their Wine and War: The French, the Nazis, and the Battle for France#39;s Greatest Treasure I read Wine and War shortly after returning from a 3 week trip to France during which we became much knowledgeable about French wines and their place in France's culture and history and raison d'etre. I have eaten at Le Chapon Fin in Bordeaux I had no idea it was a historic place. The food was excellent. This book makes you want to go to these wineries and taste these wines.
