The sleepy town of Sanctum Harbor is in for a rude awakening...
Misty Ryder yearns for a love like the one she once had with Deputy Jack Snow. Working so closely with him at the sheriff's department only twists the knife he left in her heart nearly a decade before.
When she unintentionally disturbs the spirit of an old, forgotten crime and unearths a mystery that defies rational explanation, she and Jack find themselves surrounded by the secrets of the living--and the cries of the dead.
How can antique silks and lace take such a hold on two scarred lovers, and will freeing the spirit free them, as well? The Spellbound Spirit (The Curious Collectibles Series) (Volume 1)
The premise of this book is interesting and what drew me to it in the first place. However, the main problem with it is that it cannot decide whether it is erotica or horror. There is no problem with it being a hybrid text but unfortunately the erotica does not meld seamlessly with the horror aspect.
During descriptions of the horror elements there is an engaging use of language though it is sometimes clichéd. Some of the turns of phrase are lovely. But it is during the descriptions of erotic events where I’m less convinced. This is because it tips into Barbara Cartland mode at times.
The author negotiates big themes of loss, grief and familial mental health. They are tackled with great sensitivity. Sections where Jack and Misty are investigating are very engaging as is the dialogue between them. Characters are well realised and their motivations believable.
The typography of the chapter headings and end chapter decals was distracting. Unless I’m reading a graphic novel I feel these are unnecessary. The book could also have benefitted from a second set of eyes as there are some editing issues.
Overall this was an enjoyable read even though I anticipated some of the events which played out at the end. I wish it was possible to give it two separate star scorings – a 5 for the story and a 3 for execution. I look forward to reading more of what this author has to offer as her work shows great promise.
Lana Hart Possessed lingerie!! No, it's not that kind of book. It's a magical mystery and a continuation of the series. Quite good actually, if you don't mind a little (a lot of) magic mixed in your story, and a dash of romance as well. Sort of romance anyway. But what's a girl to do when she's trapped in possessed lingerie? Lana Hart
