As a runner I was intrigued by all the workouts and running training and strategy Ben and Coach Sands employed. The storyline is a bit contrived as someone in Ben’s horrible life situation would never have sufficient nutrition or equipment to accomplish what he did. But The Slummer: Quarters Till Death This is a great book especially if you are a runner. For non runners as well though, the story of these characters and their struggles through society and our world, especially the way things have become today, are very relatable, or at the least understandably familiar. It is about a boy becoming a man while facing many challenges on his way to achieving his dream. In 2084 America, society is divided into genetically engineered elites and slummers. I really enjoyed this book. Took me a little bit to get into it but, then I was thoroughly hooked. A very compelling story. Brought back memories of when I considered myself a runner. It says so much about than running. the prejudices of the elites towards the The Slummer: Quarters Till Death I have been a runner for many years. This book is an excellent read and truly captures the mind of a runner. I highly recommend this book to all runners. Actually I recommend to it to everyone.
