Full disclosure: I'm a maths teacher, so perhaps not the most impartial reviewer of a book about numbers. All the same, I was impressed by this book a good balance of some of the interesting facts about numbers, alongside historical anecdotes and with enough complexity to make the stories meaningful but not relying on a familiarity or confidence with maths beyond what most people would remember from school. The Invention of Numbers (English Edition) eBook : Bentley, Peter This is the single worst ebook I've ever seen. I can't say a thing about its contents, as i can't read them on my device, a phone: one cannot seemingly adjust the layout or font size as with other books, but has to pinch zoom in and out and then pan the small recognisable window around a negative number of stars would be in order here. The Invention of Numbers (English Edition) eBook : Bentley, Peter Numbers are inescapable: they follow us everywhere, run our lives, control many aspects of our world. And yet We now live in an age when many people struggle to add two, two digit numbers together in their heads. They look around wildly for the nearest calculator or computer. This is one of those books that you'll dip into again, and again and again. Its appeal is in the fact that its range is so very broad, and it has the erudite guide in Dr Peter Bentley to take us on a fascinating voyage. And if it matters to you, it's a beautifully presented volume too. The Invention of Numbers (English Edition) eBook : Bentley, Peter Completely unreadable on Kindle, the pages and font are too small and I couldn't find anyway of improving it, bloody annoying and I assume something to do with the formatting. Buy in hardcopy only. The Invention of Numbers (English Edition) eBook : Bentley, Peter A fascinating look at the development and application of numbers from ancient to present times. As [very much] a non mathematician I found this lively, erudite explanation and exploration of all things to do with numbers utterly absorbing and very enriching. A great book, well worth a read by even the most innumerate! The Invention of Numbers (English Edition) eBook : Bentley, Peter
