Mile a minute action as Mason plays hard ball. How was Erle Stanley Gardner able to turn out so much of this quality? The Case of the Baited Hook: A Perry Mason Mystery Perry Mason is hired one rainy night by a man who won’t give his name to defend a nameless masked woman. Mason doesn’t like it, but he’s handed a piece of a $10,000 bill as bait to accept the client. She will give him the other part of the $10,000 when he’s resolved her difficulties. The complex plot encompasses murder, blackmail, embezzlement, and stock fraud. Mason has to unmask all these nefarious doings while trying to guess the identity of his client, defend her from whatever, and collect his fee from her. There are lots of accomplished liars in the mix, and they do their best to get Mason in trouble with the law. There are no court scenes, which I missed. And Mason at times acts like a dubious detective than a respected lawyer. Anyway I wasn’t enchanted with this book, though it's well done. I like the series in general and will continue to follow it. The Case of the Baited Hook appeared in 1940.The introduction is especially good and reveals Earl Stanley Gardner to be an admirable and fascinating character. The Case of the Baited Hook: A Perry Mason Mystery This is another one of the Perry Mason books that I think is well done, plot wise. There are a lot of characters who could have committed the murder, and that makes a really interesting mystery. The Case of the Baited Hook: A Perry Mason Mystery What can I say. I love Perry. The Case of the Baited Hook: A Perry Mason Mystery I like this product because I could add it to my growing collection of Perry Mason novels at a fair price.
