Where to begin SEIZE THE DAY by Curtis Bunn is listed as a work of fiction and well it maybe; but Curtis wrote a book that touched on forgiveness, illness, romance, spiritually, and the treatment of our young black men. As a daddy's girl the relationship between Maya and Calvin was loving, touching me on many levels.

If you are looking for a read to touch your soul read SEIZE THE DAY by Curtis Bunn, this book is my number one read for the year, in my opinion Curtis's best book. Seize the Day Seizing the Day

I enjoyed this read and applaud the author for covering this subject matter. I'm not sure what I would do in Calvin's position, but I admire how he handled himself.

Seize the Day by Curtis Bunn is one of those books. It's the story of Calvin Jones, who is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Up until the diagnosis, he has been living a mostly normal lifestyle: a 45-year-old a school teacher from DC, confirmed bachelor but father to his beloved daughter, Maya. He spends his time golfing, reading, and dating. After his diagnosis he has an epiphany, he decides to forego chemo and live out the rest of days, however many there may be, in the most fulfilling ways possible.

With lots of surprises, both pleasant and not so much, Calvin begins his new life. He is more outspoken, more deliberate, and unrelenting to anything and anyone not in line with his new life objective. He has many enlightening experiences that enhance his numbered days and I enjoyed reading about each one of them. I enjoyed these characters, and learned something from almost all of them. From Walter and Calvin to Maya and Kathy, each had something to enrich this story. I was a little surprised at the ending, but in retrospect, I am glad that the author wrapped it up the way he did. Seize the Day also touched on plenty of other real life issues - police brutality and senseless killings of minorities, anger and forgiveness, mental illness, etc., all of which, were woven into an already captivating story from beginning to end.

Thanks to this book, I am now reflecting on the way that I live each and every day. I feel like that may have been the ultimate goal of Mr. Bunn in writing this novel, and I'd like him to know that, in least in my case, he was successful. This is my second novel by this Curtis Bunn and I will definitely be adding more to my collection soon. Seize the Day I loved this book. It made me cry and laugh. I will be looking at how I can live my life better. Mr. Bunn touched on some very good subjects. Tomorrow isn't promised. Seize the Day

Curtis gives some things to think about if one became aware they only had a short time to live. This subject could be seen as morbid which I think the author manages to steer clear of and focus on how one chooses to spend remaining time on earth. Seize the Day This is the story of Calvin Jones a middle aged man who goes to the Dr. and is told that he has only months to live. How will he seize the time he has left??? If you were told this how would you. Well after the initial shock, sadness, feelings of doom and gloom he decides to seek spiritual advice and then he begins to live, really live one day at a time but taking full advantage of each day regardless of the pain he feels, he's determined to make a difference with the time he has. He experiences love again, he reaches out and helps those who are less fortunate, he even takes in a stray dog and names him Moses who becomes his saving grace. Relationships are mended and he's determined to live until God says its time. I found myself questioning what would I do if I was told I had months to live? Would I take treatments or seek other holistic methods, would I just sit and wait to die or would I truly enjoy the rest of my time on earth as best as I could???? This novel was thought provoking although you still knew reading it that the character was more than likely going to die, he truly seized the day and decided to live, like all of us should want to do, live the life God has given you and utilize the time wisely, you are only given one life, what are you doing with it, how are you spreading God's love, are you going out of your way to be a blessing to someone, many thoughts will be provoked as you read this novel. I did enjoy it and would recommend you to read it as well. Seize the Day OMG! What a fantastic book! I have read everything by Mr. Bunn and he just keeps getting better and better! This book was phenomenal! What a story! I also love love love the fact that Mr. Bunn writes like the authors back in the day, his writing reminds me of the late James Baldwin, and Tony Morrison and Maya and Terry and Alice..He manages to tell heartfelt, deep, satisfying and COMPLETE stories in ONE NOVEL! There is a big difference between writers and hustlers. Those so called urban fiction novels that get you going and then tell you stay tuned for parts 2,3,4,5,6 and 7 piss me off and always make me feel ganked. I have gotten to the point where before I even purchase a book I sneek a peek at the back page to see if it says to be continued so I don't even waste my money! But this book right here…..GET IT! You will not regret it! Thank you once again Curtis Bunn, Your writing is MASTERFUL! Seize the Day This book was very inspiring. It really makes you think about how you are living your life. Life is shorter than most of us think so we have to take advantage of the time we have here. It was a great and quick read. Seize the Day Curtis Bunn has done it again.
