It’s 1896, and like any affluent young woman of high Boston society, Gemma Roberts is waltzing through extravagant dinner parties, seeking a courtship that suits her adoring father, Edward’s, expectations. That all changes when she meets William Bennett, a perplexing yet charming sugar tycoon from Georgia who her father denounces.
When Edward unexpectedly dies under mysterious circumstances, Gemma impulsively marries William and runs from her life of prestige to his family’s remote island estate, where she quickly learns William’s business is floundering, and his island mansion lies in ruinous disrepair.
Taxing effects of isolation lurk over her. With only her caretaker, Lizzie, to trust, Gemma can’t help but question her sanity when she hears scratching from within the mansion walls, and ghostly whispers call her name. Haunting visions only Gemma can see escalate to a ghastly reality of unexplained deaths among mansion residents.
Is Stonehill Estate founded on a cursed island or built on a burial ground of dreadful family secrets? Is there a difference?
One question alone keeps readers’ hearts racing and hands impatiently page-turning: How far will Gemma go to survive? Rising Water
Fun, quick read (I devoured it in one evening!) A great mix of romance, historical fiction, and mystery/thriller. Wonderful debut from a new novelist, can’t wait to read more! Rising Water A fantastic first novel from a new author.
Combines the late 19th century boston high society world with love, mystery, heartbreak, and hope. Feels like downton abbey, but American, combined with a gripping mystery that you can't help but finish once it starts. Rising Water Historical mystery
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it several times. When I started it the first time because it started to shape up as a romance and if you've read any of my reviews or know me, you might have heard me mention I am not the biggest romance fan. Yet I got sucked into the romance and the charm of the young couple. I had a few suspicions about dad's sudden death but nothing concrete. And let me tell you, i definitely didn't see that twist coming. I suspected murder afoul but not that twist. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and implore you to read it and (hopefully) enjoy it as much as I did and without a doubt will enjoy again. Rising Water This book was amazing and grabbed my attention from the very beginning. I couldn’t put this book down and read it from beginning to end even though I should have been asleep while our newborn was. The story was so well written and captivating. I hope there is more to the story because I have been left wanting more. If you like romance and mystery this book is for you. Rising Water I felt like this tale started out as a basic romance period piece but slowly crept into a classic gothic horror story. It was a fun mystery littered with just enough clues , and just enough romance, to keep me reading long into the night. Rising Water
