Lost Love: Based on a true story By Adele Bradford

Read & Download Lost Love: Based on a true story

In a small village a one hundred and fifty year-old stone cross, slightly tilted, still bears witness to the love between two young people so different in rank, religion, nationality. Although many winds and rains have passed over it, one can still make out the words, filled with regret and love.
Livia’s beauty and the young Count’s intense love for her have survived the passing of time, in the peasants’ memories.
This is a strong, tormenting, powerful love at first sight, based on true facts.

This book broke my heart. The story was wonderful but I lost count on how many times I cried. If you want a fluffy happy ending book- this is not for you. This story is a beautifully tragic love story.
I highly recommend reading this.

Lost Love: Based on a true story

I'm a sucker for romance novels (not just historical fiction) and when I found this on my recommended feed, I just had to get myself a copy. Lost Love by Adele Bradford is nothing short of a classic. The writing is extremely vivid and the characters are well developed. Adele's storytelling skills are worthy of endless praise. It felt like I was a character in the story and felt the feelings the characters felt. It is the kind of story that is beautifully packed with emotions that makes it absolutely impossible to put down until you're done.

All in all, this is what I call a perfect book for a perfect day (obviously for voracious readers like me). English This was an endearing tale of love lost, found and lost again. Based on a true story? A million true stories. Probably more of a fable, but a nice summer read. I liked it. Enough. English One of the most common tropes in Western literature is that of love at first sight. For centuries, we have been intrigued by the notion of Cupid’s darts inspiring overwhelming passion in two people who meet for the first time. We wonder if such a magical thing could happen to us, and believe it would be a thrilling experience. Impose this upon two people from different social classes and you’ve got the makings of a great story. How would the couple meet at first? What kinds of problems would their attraction cause and how would they overcome them?

Adele Bradford’s historical romance novel, Lost Love, is set upon this foundation. In it, an Austrian Count fell in love at first sight with a Transylvanian peasant. The couple was divided by class and politics. I was prepared to spend a couple of days indulging in the guilty pleasure of reading a romance novel replete with passion, hardship, commitment and the entertaining trappings of historical costumes and manners. Unfortunately, I couldn’t bring myself to read more than 10% of the book. While the necessary ingredients are present for a good tale, the execution is not up to par.

Bradford’s prose is excessively florid. She spends too much time describing scenery and persons with expected similes and a flood of adjectives. She lays them on so thick that redundancies get lost. For example, she describes the village buildings as “small sad little houses.” If the author spent less time on her descriptive writing and more time on showing the characters acting and reflecting on their experiences, the story would be more interesting.

Additionally, the narrative is disjointed. It jumps from a rambling description of the environment to the history of a character who has no immediate bearing on the plot. It relates the main character’s personal point of view and, without warning, switches to a third character’s inner monologue. It’s not hard to keep up, since the plot is one readers are familiar with, but it makes the reader’s experience less pleasant.

I hope Adele Bradford keeps writing because she has lots of promise, but next time she needs to employ an editor who will help her polish her work. Lost Love is simply not worth the time to read, but given a dramatic overhaul, it just might be. English This book broke my heart. The story was wonderful but I lost count on how many times I cried.
