Little Juniper Makes It Big By Aidan Cassie

Aidan Cassie, the creator of Sterling, Best Dog Ever, employs her pitch-perfect humor and heartwarming illustrations here again to help little ones love themselves at any size in Little Juniper Makes It BIG.
What Juniper lacks in size, she makes up for in heart. And her heart is dead-set on growing up and getting taller. She's tired of having to reach for the cookie jar or use a stepping stool for the toilet. Everything in Juniper's world seems to be made for adults. Ugh!
Juniper is industrious, however, and builds several silly contraptions to help reach her goals. But it isn't until she makes a fun new friend at school, Clove, who is even smaller than Juniper, that she is able to see her world from a new perspective--and appreciate all sizes, big or small. Little Juniper Makes It Big
Classic story of the grass is always greener on the other side. Love the loon as a rubber ducky in the bathtub! Be sure to check out the case cover art. 9780374310455 I absolutely loved Sterling, Best Dog Ever. It's one of my top picture-book reads of 2019. So I went into Little Juniper Makes It BIG with some trepidation, because I wasn't sure if this second book by Cassie would be anywhere near as good. Could it be? To my great relief, the answer is a resounding, YES!
Little Juniper Makes It BIG is about an anthropomorphized raccoon child who finds that everything in her world is too big. She falls in the toilet. She can't reach the sink. She can't loot the cookie jar. Her mother assures her that she will grow, but Juniper is impatient. It isn't until she becomes friends with tiny Clove, a squirrel, that she gets a bit of perspective and realizes that being small can have its advantages.
The story is cute enough, but the illustrations just take it over the top. They're adorable, with just the right amount of humour. And I loved seeing the Hudson's Bay point blanket on Juniper's bed! (It's a nice little touch from this Canadian author.)
I really loved this book, and I can't wait to see what Cassie brings us next!
Quotable moment:
9780374310455 When you're little, it seems like it takes forever to grow. And it's easy to become very impatient. Little Juniper is tired of everything being too big for her - the toilet, the car seat, movie seats. At school, she makes a new friend, Clove. Clove is a little squirrel and so much smaller than Juniper. When Juniper visits Clove's house, everything seems so small there. This is a good story to talk about perspective - Clove feels small in her own house but feels huge in her friend's house. It's also got a good message about being happy with who you are and self-acceptance. 9780374310455 Sometimes it can be challenging when you're small and can't reach the things you want. Juniper is annoyed at her smallness since everything seems to be designed for adults and those who are larger. Determined not to let her size keep her down, she invents various creations that might help her out. Although they don't work, she's glad that she gave this a try. But at school, she realizes that size is relative, and she isn't all that small, after all. Particularly compared to Clove, she is pretty big. A weekend sleepover allows Juniper to see the advantages of her own size as Clove's house and bed are a bit too cramped for her. she returns home, satisfied with the way things are back there. While she hasn't grown physically, she has a new appreciation for her house. The text and illustrations use humor and humorous situations to get the message across. This picture book might be fun to share with little ones, especially those that feel a bit like Juniper at the start of this book. The images of a soggy Juniper climbing out of the toilet are so very funny. I like this author/illustrator's approach to storytelling. 9780374310455 This is a perfect picture book. Funny, wise. Relatable, otherworldly. The art and writing are crafted to genius levels. Kids will want to read it over and over again. 9780374310455

This is such a sweet picture book about Juniper, a young raccoon who feels that he is just too small to fit into the world around him. Everything is out of reach at home due to his small size. That is until he meets his new friend Clove the squirrel. After a sleepover at Clove's house, where Juniper learns the importance of perspective. While at Clove's house, he is too big to fit into the bed, sit on the couch, and swing on the swings. After returning home, and gaining this new perspective on life, he realized that his home is perfect just the way it is! The pictures in this story are beautiful and engaging! I truly enjoyed this story, as will kids of all ages! Great book to teach perspective! 9780374310455 Special thanks to the author and publisher for sending an advanced reader's edition to my #bookexcursion group.
At home, Juniper does not appreciate her size. No matter what creative inventions she makes, she was still too little. School is better, for compared to her classmates, Juniper doesn't feel as small. New student Clove is tinier than her and never lets her diminutive size stand in her way. After a sleepover at Clove’s much smaller house, Juniper gains perspective realizing that while her house isn’t perfect, it is just the right size for her.
Beautifully drawn and written, young readers will relate to Juniper’s struggle to appreciate herself. Cassie’s illustrations warmly convey Juniper’s journey to self-acceptance. 9780374310455 Juniper has had it with being too small-- and she doesn't feel like she will ever get bigger! When she goes to Clover the squirrel's house for a sleepover, she is surprised at how everything is the perfect size! However, she quickly realizes not everything about being big is perfect... Adorable and sweet book about patience, and using your height to your advantage! 9780374310455 I received a review copy of from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
At home Juniper the raccoon is too little. A school things are better. With her friend Clove the squirrel, Juniper is very big. Juniper loves playing with Clove, especially when she arrives at Clove's house for a playdate. At Clove's house, Juniper is adult size.
The change in setting helps Juniper see that there are some advantages to being big. And some advantages of being small. No matter where she is, Juniper learns to see that most things are wonderful.
A sweet book with a great lesson for kids who are always wanting to be BIG. 9780374310455
