This is not the best FX Holden Novel. Still has great characters but it does not have the buzz of the other books. I think it may be down to the Turkish Syrian Theatre as much as anything. There are just too many factions and the battlemaps are hard to work out in one's head. I culdn't believe that I discovered two maps after I had read the book? Surely they should be at the front? Or beter still inset them where they are relevant. Bunny is still kool, her Russian counterparts are okaaaaay but it's all a bit done already and I also fely that there were not enough strategic views at a Presidential and senior level across the protagonists countries.Don't get me wrong, the book isn't bad it's actually quite good but I preferred the others for the above rasons. English This is a masterclass in how to write a thriller. Told from multiple viewpoints it races along from start to finish with brilliantly detailed action and great characters. Another great thing is, he's written books and I really am looking forward to reading all of them. English A clever story and a great read. I have read all the series by FX Holden (not his real name). I my opinion he is a gifted Australian writer who is seriously under rated. All of his books so far, take place in the near future 20 30 years from now.If you are into breath taking fast action war stories, then this is definitely a book for you.All of his books are technically accurate and well researched. I will not give away the plot. English This great thriller follows a diverse cast of characters caught up in a 'limited war' between Turkey and Syria which draws in Kurdish insurgents, an isolated battalion of US Marines and pilots from the RAF and RAAF facing Russian opponents.Readers of earlier installments of FX Holden's future war series will welcome the return if Flying Officer 'Bunny' O'Hare and another near future scenario that is all to real but by being set ten years into the future is refreshingly different to many military thrillers. If you are new to the series, this is a great place to start as chronologically it is the earliest of the books and if you enjoy it (as I expect you will) you know there are three great books waiting for you. English Not very often impressed by an author I've never read before, but I was with this. Got it by accident and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fiction at its best, based on current and future reality. If the second book is as good as this one, I might change my reading habits. English
