For a book with such a cartoony kiddish cover, I was expecting something more along the lines of the Zack Files or possibly The Boxcar Children. Unfortunately, these books are slightly inappropriate for the age range. The first book starts off with the boys skinny-dipping and then conversations about co-ed skinny dipping. Then one of the boys is trying to access free adult channels and shouts, Switzerland invented sex!.

It's a shame, since a kid who loves sports or Hockey in general would love these books. I was even willing to give them another shot by starting the second book. Until one of the boys wants money to buy x-ray glasses so he can look at girls in bikinis. The only reason I can find for parents buying these for their kids is because the covers assume innocence. But not so. 9780771056154 Of course, if I see a book that says Kidnapped in Sweden and includes the Russian mob, I would be stupid not to want to read it!
This is a great story that boys and girls alike would enjoy. Its got just enough adventure to get excitement running through a tween reader, and calm enough a younger kid could read it as well. From castles to ice rinks, hockey games to facing down the Russian mob, the Screech Owls Hockey Team takes the reader on a wild adventure as they try to keep the Russian peewee hockey star, Slava, safe from Russian mobsters wanting to kidnap him. I enjoyed this book a lot, and any sports loving enthusiast would love this series!
9780771056154 The Screech owls books were some of the books that got me into reading. Reading this one was a blast from the past and showed me why I enjoyed them so much as a kid. The plot is exciting and the hockey is well written. These are fun reads! 9780771056154 These are great chapter books for kids who like Hockey!! What fun books with mysteries that are appropriate for kids 9 and up!

Each book has a an exciting hockey game and a mystery to solve. The characters in the books are very relateable for kids of this age and engaging. I love that their are both boys and girls on the team and they all contribute!

The stories also contain lessons on teamwork, sportsmanship and friendship! Terrific lessons for all kids!

There are a few times when I thought the content was a bit off for the age, but then when you compare it to modern video games, movies and tv shows, it was mild. Kids today are ages ahead of their past counterparts and these books reflect that.

Hockey fans will find a lot to love here. The play-by-play is really fun to read even for non-sporties like myself.
