Jason and the Golden Fleece: (The Argonautica) (Oxford Worlds Classics) By Apollonius of Rhodes

In my fairly limited experience with ALL the so called Western classics, the Oxford translations are best. Not that I can read Greek or Latin, mind you: It's just that they are so much enjoyable to read! There's an age old debate about translations, Jason and the Golden Fleece: (The Argonautica) (Oxford Worlds Classics) Let's start with the good this edition, a translation by Robert Hunter, has some of the nicest introductory and translation notes out there. Family trees, maps, and a LOT of end notes, this is an edition that someone put a lot of work into. However, I'm not a Jason and the Golden Fleece: (The Argonautica) (Oxford Worlds Classics) Great Jason and the Golden Fleece: (The Argonautica) (Oxford Worlds Classics) Good read, didn't enjoy the surplus of endnotes but very informative all the same. A must read for anyone interested in Greek literature or myth. Jason and the Golden Fleece: (The Argonautica) (Oxford Worlds Classics) This is underwhelming. To some extent, the dry, long paragraphs of Hunter's translation remodel the intense academic dexterity of Apollonius' original verse, but the fact remains that Apollonius is exciting, and Hunter fails to capture his energy. I recommend the Green's Jason and the Golden Fleece: (The Argonautica) (Oxford Worlds Classics)
