For me the book was of a blog post then a book. Something you would read on Facebook.At the end of the book the author announced he hasn’t received confirmation if his B1 exam was successful so I’m not sure how this confirms that what he has suggested will help you to B1 level.However, I enjoyed the fact that most of the suggested things are what I am also doing.The main thing to take from this book is practicing everyday is something you must make into a habit reading, listening, writing and speaking. I have been studying it for about 10 years and still consider myself at an intermediate level, so I was very interested to read Frank Metzel's book, which summarizes language learning strategies and resources. I first met Frank through our common on line teacher, Paulina Lipiec at polskidaily.eu, and it was interesting to see that we have had similar journeys through on line resources, including realpolish.pl and Jonathan Huggins Thirty Day Speaking Challenge. We both have also taken formal classes in person. While reading his book, I found myself nodding in agreement at many points, especially his advice that learning grammar is absolutely necessary for continued progress. Frank promises future updates as his language journey progresses I look forward to them. The writing is clear and precise. It is an easy read, but packed full of advice. Bravo! The first is that they are all relatively concise and usually take less than a screen each on my Kindle. The other is that they are all tried and tested tips not just from Frank but from other people he knows. They are *practical* techniques that you can try out. As the author says, he doesn't expect you to find that all of the tips will work for everybody. However, I think you will find that many of them do. I already do some of them, but will be trying out plenty of the others. The author does not oversell his book and concedes all the information is out there if anyone wants to look for themselves, but he writes from experience as someone who has already walked the walk and has pulled all the information into one modest but useful book and that alone will hugely benefit anyone embarking on Polish language learning for the first time.
