I was so excited for this story! This book is billed as a dark arranged marriage romance and is the first book in The Feldman Brothers duet. Wilder Feldman, his brother Sawyer, and their father Forrest have a family business, The Feldman Farm. The author has done a fantastic job of showing us the family dynamics and it left me feeling a great deal of uncertainty and uneasiness. Enter Maisie, the newest player in the games (yes, there’s than one going on here), who is set to shake Wilder’s world. Unwittingly escaping a bad situation into a worse one, Maisie is dragged into a game where she doesn’t know the rules, she’s playing with cheaters, and the consequences are unforgiving. I loved the characters—Wilder is a monster, and remains a monster. While we gain a deeper understanding of how he became this way, nothing is going to change this man. Maisie recognises Wilder’s darkness and than embraces it, because she too is a monster. The writing is has created a tension where you feel like anything can go wrong at any time. The author has created a tightly controlled world where survival trumps all, and love makes makes the risks sweeter. For lovers of the dark, a bit of dubcon, and a less commonly occurring kink. His Brutal Game: A Dark Arranged Marriage Romance (The Feldman Brothers Duet Book 1) I don't usually leave reviews but this book was awful! The writing was all over the place the plot was lost and the characters didn't seem to really make sense. It jumped from one thing to another and you aren't fully satisfied with the chapter because it feels like something is missing. I read a minimum of a book a day from this forum alone and I have to say this might be the worst book I've ever read on !!! The ARC readers who gave 5 stars were lying! His Brutal Game: A Dark Arranged Marriage Romance (The Feldman Brothers Duet Book 1) This book could’ve been amazing if there had been details or if certain things were known from the beginning. We don’t truly learn what the ranch is/means until 30% of the way into the book. The first part insinuates what’s going on but you’re always left kind of in the dark. It’s going to be a dnf for me unfortunately. Most if not all the 5 star reviews are from arc readers which says a lot and is sad that they weren’t truly honest. It has potential but needs some work. His Brutal Game: A Dark Arranged Marriage Romance (The Feldman Brothers Duet Book 1) I saw this on booktok and downloaded it expecting so much . I love dark romance and smut so ok I thought I’d love this but definitely not! His Brutal Game: A Dark Arranged Marriage Romance (The Feldman Brothers Duet Book 1) The brothers in this depraved family had to complete a list from their father to see who would run the company. Their company consisted of killing people in a most brutal way. I found this book to be incredibly violent, even so than some mafia books. The darkness of the characters was than i’ve ever seen before. It was very engrossing but I was grateful there wasn’t another book in the series His Brutal Game: A Dark Arranged Marriage Romance (The Feldman Brothers Duet Book 1)

This book is not dark or romantic. It is a poorly executed story about abuse. It is graphically violent and attempts to romanticize domestic violence. His Brutal Game: A Dark Arranged Marriage Romance (The Feldman Brothers Duet Book 1) I have to start off by saying that this book was not at all what I expected, and yet at the same time it was. As confusing as that sounds, lets just say that there are a whole lot of surprises and double twists that unfold rather than jump out from the darkness at you. This book is not for the faint of heart or the the traumatized mind, so be warned. You will either love it, or hate it. There is no middle ground on this.

To celebrate his son’s attaining the age of competing in the Feldman Trial, Forrest arranges a marriage between his oddly emotionless son, Wilder, and a prostitute seeking to escape her life. It makes sense to Forrest. She’s a throw away, someone no one will miss if she goes missing, and someone Wilder will not get hung up on if he is called upon to end her. The rivalry between the brothers, Wilder and Sawyer, is forced by their father by so called traditions that are as old as the family’s origins.

Maisie Ross knows the exact steps she took that led her down the dangerously spiraling fall that she is on. She isn’t sure the proffered million bucks is enough to save her soul from Hell, but it might help Bambi (her only friend) escape this life’s venomous clutches. At least she hoped so until she learns exactly what kind of man she married, and the business that is really the backbone of the Feldman empire.

Wilder and Maisie flounder through a live fire exercise field heavily seeded with mines and unexplored implements of destruction through the entirety of this book. Neither one of them willing to admit that they feel anything at all — Wilder out of fear that it will be taken from him, and Maisie because she doesn’t feel that she deserves to be loved after the tragic circumstances that caused her to spiral out of control in a massive bleeding mess of self destructive behavior. The whole family is unhinged in one way or another, and there is seemingly no one that either Maisie or Wilder can trust. Everyone is out for themselves, even Bambi, it seems.

Once this wild ride is through, however, you will not look at these particular characters in the same manner. Who exactly is the monster? Who deserves to be punished? Which one deserves death and dismemberment? Why can’t love be simple any?
Oh… how fickle…

When the author called it a Dark Romance, she meant it.

The only thing I have to complain about is the choppy feel of some of the chapters. The flow was sometimes not quite right for the movement of the story, even though the characters themselves overcame most of these moments by force of will. It was obvious that this was one story that was going to be told, no matter what. So the cadence is sometimes that of a person struggling through a field of broken bricks before it becomes the graceful — if frightening — rush of a predictor through the tall grass of the prairies.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. His Brutal Game: A Dark Arranged Marriage Romance (The Feldman Brothers Duet Book 1) His Brutal Game is a very appropriate title for this book. It is brutal indeed.

To be honest, I had a difficult time finishing this book, only because of the brutality of the personal interactions between Maisie and Wilder. That is just me. I understood their stated reasons, but even as a dark romance reader, this went beyond my limits.

This story was well written, the characters were fascinating. The plot reminded me of another series I had read. I was not at all surprised by the outcome and I saw all the twists coming. My biggest complaint is that there were no trigger warnings in the beginning of this book. I truly believe an author has a duty to inform her readers of any triggers. And this book has plenty. Watetboarding during sex. Patricide. Matricide. Attempted parricide. Mutilation. Had a trigger warning been included, I would have added another star.
