This book was really interesting. I loved the imagery of the world, and different places. There were a handful of plot twists dotted around, some more shocking than others. It made me laugh on more than one occasion and I enjoyed my experience.
Adri was a really fierce MC. She is a handful, and sometimes comes across as rude but I can understand why that is given her tragic back story. Then Caeden, I really enjoyed him and found his POV more enjoyable to read, sometimes he was a little on the extreme side to the point I was shocked at his actions, but it gave his character depth.
For me the middle was kind of slow and I did find myself wanting some more higher stakes while on their journey throughout the book.
However, this is a great debut and I'm excited to see the finished product and where the series goes from here. 527 (My rating is 3.5, but Goodreads hates half stars)
I received this book as an ARC, but this is my unfiltered, no spoilers, review.
I enjoyed this book! There are a couple issues I had with it, like the long paragraphs and sentences, which could make it hard to remain engaged. It also started off a bit slow, as fantasy tends to do, so make sure you give it a fair chance to pick up. Overall, I enjoyed reading the book and am excited to see more from this author. For a debut book, it was good and I think more and more, we'll start to see Jayce's voice coming through in her books. This one already have some fair amount of it, but I'd like to see her develop as an author.
Final thoughts, give this a try if you're interested in a badass female main character and good fantasy. 527 Thank you to the author for giving me arc! Anastasia vibes but with Fae and a massive cliffhanger.
I never fell in love with the mmc. It is enemies to lovers but almost bully-ish. I just never felt the romance, and I hate bully romance so I didn’t vibe with him. BUT I do love the fmc - very badass and gives zero but secretly cares.
Overall a fun high fantasy book, and I would read book 2 to see where the story is going. 527 ARC reader: Just finished reading my advanced copy and was left in shock at the ending
The story starts out a little slow but quickly picks up speed once you get through the story building that takes place in the beginning
The main character Adri is a strong badass who has a hard time dealing with the loss of her family 7 years ago
She hides a secret that will change how she is perceived by the world around her
The second main character Caeden has moments of being much less likeable but is not always an unlikeable character, the secrets Adri hides from him cause their relationship to be hot and cold
I definitely enjoyed reading this book and will be on the look out when the series continues and am interested to learn more about other characters that we briefly meet 527
