Five of the perhaps two dozen extant Arthurian romances written 1100-1500 in English and based on Anglo-Saxon, rather than French, verse forms. Because they were popular and lack much literary merit, they have not been translated or anthologized in modern editions, but form an important part of the Five Middle English Arthurian Romances
