Brave. Intelligent. Man. Adventurer. Legend.

These are all words.

Words that describe Captain Max Virtus.

Over the last decade Max Virtus has explored the history of the world. But not the regular history that is spouted by those with standard and ever so slightly boring history degrees. No, this is the history of the weird, the odd, the unexpected.

The history of the bizarre.

And so, BIZARRCHEOLOGY was formed. It’s been written in capitals to highlight it’s importance to the world. Max set about digging up the bizarrely brilliant facts from the past in order to assemble a warehouse of the weird and wonderful items of history. A warehouse so vast that it is a mystery as to how it remained a secret.

Until today. Because today the contents of this warehouse, these Escapades in Bizarrchaeology, will be shared with the world.

Let Max take you on a tour of his warehouse and discover the many tales of history within.

Max Virtus. Taking history to the Max.

Escapades in Bizarrchaeology collects the first 12 months of articles from Max Virtus's blog as well as brand new, never before read content. Escapades in Bizarrchaeology

I was first of all attracted by the slightly mad title. I promised myself a few chapters to see how it went and found myself drawn in. You know those odd nights, lying in bed when a couple of unconnected thoughts seem to make their connection seem eminently sensible? Yes, it is a bit like that.
For instance, only a small example from the book (which has far more than this), a tank may seem to be a pretty impregnable piece of kit on a battlefield. One of its setbacks is being unable to change direction quickly. So why not make a spherical tank? Oh, but how do the soldiers see where they are going. Although never built, it is the kind of concept that had been considered and Captain Max reports on it here.
There are many factual references and real information and these are used to answer questions about just beyond what we know.
Videophones were completely normal in the world of Thunderbirds back in the 60s. They are completely normal in our world today.
I wonder how many of the slightly mad ideas considered in this book might, one day, be revisited and brought to fruition.
I recommend this book to anyone who has ever thought, I wonder why? Escapades in Bizarrchaeology
