★Review★
I have to admit, when I picked this up and started reading it, I thought for a second I had opened the wrong book, it seemed to be going off in a different direction than I expected.
It took till nearly 20% of the book (according to the kindle) for the actual story to start really.
For me, there was far too much time spent on the whole being fired, looking for a new job, interview for the new job etc aspect. (and given the book ends at 86% on my kindle, which sort of annoyed me, as I expected more story) it made even less sense to have nearly 20% of a story that ends at 86% spent on imo non important stuff.
Bane was not what I expected from the blurb. Yes he was violent and a killer and what not, but he seemed watered down from what you would have expected.
But, in saying that, I did enjoy it, and found myself rooting for Bane and Ava.
However for me, it all happened a bit to quick, in a matter of days she is perfectly willing to be off with an entire new life, with only a token regret given to her family.
Another issue, for me, is that I do not like when an author describes a character as looking like this famous person or that famous person. I just prefer a description so I can build a picture in my head on my own. And it happened 3-4 times in this book with different characters. But that is just a personal preference.
I am unsure how the series is going to go on, this is book 1 apparently in (The Depraved Club), yet given the rest of the MC members were truly awful, as were any members of the DC itself I cannot see any future MC from among them Death Layer (The Depraved Club, #1) I have to say that this book took me totally by surprise. I had read Masters previous series about Formula One and although I thought the male was written amazing, the I had trouble with her female lead. I have NEVER read anything by Celia Loren before, so this was me diving in face first with no one to catch me. But I am a big girl, I can swim. So dive in I did, and let me tell you I couldn't put the book down.
I loved this whole story. I loved the dark, I loved the characters, I loved the fluff moments, and I loved the love. Bane is a well written alpha male that when he knows what he wants he grabs it, snogs it, and doesn't let it go. Ava is a female lead that doesn't just roll over and show the big baddies her belly. She fights. Through beatings, abuse, and torment, she fights and does her best to try and get herself home no matter what the consequences may be. I love stories about demented clubs and women getting trapped. They have a whole Eyes Wide Shut vibe to me.
This was fiction that made me BELIEVE the fiction the authors were created. I never once rolled my eyes, or gave up on the idea of the story. It bloomed and exploded in my mind and I was just this innocent woman along for the ride and grinning (at times crying) the whole way.
The pacing of the book was perfect. The author didn't give to much info dump, or drama. They unbuckled and told the story with a brilliant flow that had me biting my nails and totally hot. It had been awhile since I read smexy scenes that made me ache. And oh boy was I aching. Maybe I just clicked with Bane and Ava, who knows. I was in love with their love.
*I borrowed a copy of this from Kindle Unlimited.* Death Layer (The Depraved Club, #1) I was excited to read this. I've been in a MC biker mood and this was right up my alley. Unfortunately, at some point, I stopped enjoying it.
I enjoyed the beginning. There was great set up for the predicament that Ava found herself in. But once she was there and she had Bane's attention things shifted and moved too quickly. It was just hard to go from her being scared for her life to jumping his bones. And there were holes in the plot. Nothing ever happened to the sweetbutts that harassed her or abused her. You never found out what happened to her sister and it was never explained how Jack found them at the end.
This had great potential and there were some things that were good in it, but it fell a little short for me.
*A copy of this book was provided by the publisher in exchange for a honest review.* Death Layer (The Depraved Club, #1) Solo diré que este libro es de infarto...!!
Hubo momentos en que tuve que hacer una pausa y dejarlo a un lado... la prota logra transmitirte su miedo! Death Layer (The Depraved Club, #1) Dark, hard, and just what I like! Another amazing one from the ladies at Hearts Collective. This MC story is very different from what I usually read...thank goodness! Not a thank goodness because the others weren't great, but an OMG! this book is over-the-top-freaking-intense...and I love it!!! I never give a review that contains a summary of the book or spoiler, so don't look for one. I will tell you why I rated it 5 stars and how freaking fantastic it is!!! This MC book is very different from all the others, yet so satisfying and captivating. There is intense drama, lust, hate, pain, fighting, and darkness. It's dark, raw, deep, dirty, and sad. Then you experience the better of it all and feel courage, like, hope, and bravery. Two very different people protecting each other, only to gain very different things. Celia and Colleen are my two favorite MC authors and they deliver 5 stars! Oh do they deliver... amazing, captivating, and riveting!!! More, that's what you'll be wanting! You will love this book from beginning to end! It starts with a bang and keeps you on the edge of I can't put this down! Love it ladies and thank you! Death Layer (The Depraved Club, #1)
One day she’s an innocent young girl, the next she’s the sexual property of the Death Layer Club...
When recently-unemployed 24-year old Ava Clark lands her dream job working for one of the most prestigious multi-national corporations on the planet, her enigmatic and incredibly handsome boss Vincent King seems to be icing on the cake.
However, despite his superficial charm and intimidating good-looks, Mr. King’s facade quickly crumbles revealing a heartless sociopath intent on selling Ava into sexual slavery to cover a gambling debt.
The depraved, sadistic bikers of the Death Layer Motorcycle Club know just what to do with such an impeccable young beauty—sacrifice her to the notoriously violent Bane “The Beast” Harme as a peace offering.
He’s a hardened killer, a ruthless bastard...100% tattoos and testosterone.
And he’s the best fucking thing that’s ever happened to her.
Welcome to The Depraved Club series. This is a standalone contemporary romance novel. No cliffhanger. Content suitable for adults only, contains violence, and graphic sexual content. Death Layer (The Depraved Club, #1)
I'm MC books big fan but I must say that this one surprised me a little because I didn't expect something of that style. They're strong situations but it isn't a dark romance.
Bane the beast, he's not so much a beast but rather soft as a big teddy bear. He's a murderer and a death fighter but he disagrees with most of the club's sleazy business, and he protects Ava with his own life even though she doesn't make it easy for him.
Ava, she's a little naive and reckless but in honor of the truth, she was literally thrown into a situation that goes way beyond her wildest nightmares.
I'll definitely be next. Death Layer (The Depraved Club, #1) Porque?
ME JODE MUCHÍSIMO. Era muy buen libro he incluso conseguisteis que me gustase Bane por su amor con su perrita Jenny... cagada monumental habéis hecho. Death Layer (The Depraved Club, #1) Wild and dirty MC...check!
Sweet unsuspecting young woman...check!
A pompous rich business man with no conscience and a cold heart...check!
And so begins this really different and unexpected storyline. Sure I've read books where some innocent woman is thrust into the world of an MC and is forced to work as a sex slave or held as leverage against another club. But this book started off with a bang...the prologue got my attention right away...and then after I started reading the first chapters I almost thought I had the wrong book. You go from a woman being thrown onto the bed of Bane The Beast to a seemingly different story of a woman trying to find a job and pay her bills. She answers an ad for a too-good-to-be-true job and of course she lands the position after a less than conventional interview. What happens next is a nightmare and definitely a cautionary tale...if it seems too good to be true...it usually is!
This book turned out to be way different than what I imagined, but it was an exciting and fast read about two seemingly different people who find a common ground and go with it.
A lot of violence and abuse against women...but our scary beast leading man turns into anything but a beast and slowly his true colors are revealed. It worked for me and you do get an HEA ending. Another great read from the duo Celia Loren/Colleen Masters.
**** 4 **** the best thing you never expected to happen stars Death Layer (The Depraved Club, #1) A copy was provided by the Hearts Collective for an honest review.
I was really surprised in how dark Death Layer was. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy reading darker romance books, I was just surprised my lovely girls Colleen and Celia were able to unleash such a group of depraved individuals. I read the synopsis and thought it would be similar to the recent MC books they have done, it was much darker. The MC was a little more mafia to me but made a believable villain.
The timeline seemed too short for everything that happened in Death Layer, and there was a lot going on. I wanted to feel good about the ending but I really needed there to be more connection between Bane and Ava.
Gotta say, Blair sounds like a character I hope to revisit with her own book.
Death Layer (The Depraved Club, #1) It was promising, but the characters and the storyline were very very underdeveloped and rushed.
