3.5 stars - HRS #1763 Marilyn Pappano Nev Wilson has had the same dream for twenty-nine nights of a place she swears she's never been before. YaYa, her grandmother, finds the place on-line. It is called Copper Lake. So Nev heads out there to get to the bottom of her dreams. There she meets local detective Ty Gadney, and romance develops.

My two stars is extremely generous, because this really bored me to tears! It takes a very, very long time for anything interesting to happen. Nev eventually becomes the recipient of threats from someone who doesn't like her being in town. Normally I wouldn't mind a slow-burn story, but the romance at the center of it all completely lacks any oomph! Nev and Ty are in love from the get-go, and never experience any conflict, other than the eventual arrival of Nev's stalker. Don't we all read romance to see two people overcome significant emotional hurdles in order to be together? Not here! It's all perfect, perfect, perfect, right from the moment they meet! It's actually dull.

The story is thin. Author Pappano drives it home so blatantly and relentlessly that Nev is an outsider when it comes to her sister and mother that any plot revelations down the track carry no weight or surprise. Subtlety is not a strong point! It also falls back on my pet hate of psychic phenomena to explain away several of its plot points and development. Lazy! Either make your story supernatural or don't. Wavering on the idea is frustrating and just makes it look like you couldn't be bothered coming up with proper plot twists! In any case, I'm fairly certain the Intrigue and Romantic Suspense lines aren't supposed to be supernatural, so that was doubly annoying. If I wanted that, I'd read their paranormal romances.

Nothing much here worked for me at all, I'm afraid! The two stars might be because I sometimes feel I give away too many one star reviews and I don't actually like being mean! I suppose it does has a nice sense of atmosphere and I didn't dislike the characters, but the story takes too long to get going, holds no surprises, and the romance has zero emotional intensity. Marilyn Pappano Very good book. Nev has been having frightening dreams that have led her to Copper Lake. Once there she isn't sure what to expect. She doesn't anticipate meeting the oh-so-attractive Ty Gadney, who comes to her aid. He is there for her when she is attacked. With his support Nev has the courage to look for the truth about her visions and her past.

I really liked both Nev and Ty. Nev had grown up in Atlanta and still lived with her grandmother, mother and sister. I really liked the way that she was so close to her grandmother even as her mother and sister were so cold to her. When she started having those frightening dreams it was her grandmother who helped her locate where they were taking place and encouraged her to go there. She didn't know what she was looking for but hoped to find out something that would help her. She was surprised by Ty's offer to help and his obvious interest in her. She had been put down by her sister and mother for so long that she didn't realize how beautiful she is. I loved the way that she was so kind to everyone she met and how much they liked her too. I especially liked the way that Ty's grandfather took to her. She was very cautious about revealing her dreams to him, being accustomed to people's disbelief, but eventually knew that she could trust him. I really loved her strength of self and character and the way she was able to pursue the truth of her past.

Ty was just plain wonderful all around. Being the only black cop in town he was used to facing difficulties. He noticed Nev right away and quickly realized that there was something about her that appealed to his heart and soul. I really loved the protectiveness that he showed to her from the very beginning. I also enjoyed seeing the way that he made her part of his life immediately, especially the way that he introduced her to his grandfather. He was a real sweetheart of a man and he treated her so well - something she really wasn't used to. He worried about the attacks on her and tried to find out who was behind it as they began to escalate. I loved the way that he accepted her abilities so easily. He also recognized quite early that she was the woman he had been waiting for and he had no trouble picturing a life together with her.

I enjoyed the suspense part of the book, even though it wasn't as intense as some others I have read. I figured out the secret of Nev's past pretty quickly, but the person behind the attacks came as a total surprise to me. I was also surprised by the reason behind it. I enjoyed the secondary characters, especially Ty's grandfather and Nev's grandmother. Both of them were lots of fun. I liked the part that Anamarie played and how much she helped Nev with the acceptance of her gift. I'd like to know more about what happens to Daisy and Dahlia and also Sophy. Marilyn Pappano I have pretty mixed feeligs about this book. I started out really liking it and the heroine, a young plus-sized woman who has been having strange dreams and travels to a small town to investigate them.

As I went along I became pretty uncomfortable. I pretty sure anyone who knows me would call me a traditional woman. Though I have a college degree I wanted to be a stay-at-home Mom and was happy to put off returning to work until after my kids were on their own. I had a pretty traditional marriage and participated in church regularly. (I even skip over the sex scenes in books.) However, I didn't like the fact that both MCs assumes the girl would leave her family to live in his town. As their relationahip progressed I felt like he was taking a lot for granted. At one point they're driving in her sports car to go somewhere and he opens the passenger door for her, takes the keys and drives her car. There's no conversation about it, not even a May I? He just assumes he'll drive her car, which she loves. This really bothered me, especially for a book written in 2013. I stopped reading the book for a while.

I also found it confusing that the MC's churches and faith were discussed a lot, but so were psychics and dreams/visions. In my experience those attitudes don't go together. Eventually I went back to reading the book and did finish it. I was left pretty unsatisfied. The relationship with her Mom and Grandmother is left hanging, and the solution to the crime felt pretty convoluted. All in all I can't recommend this book, though the actual writing was fine and I will try another by the author.

Marilyn Pappano There was a time I really enjoyed this series but I guess that time is past. This book just didn't pull me in, it seemed bogged down by unnecessary baggage, details of the heroine coming to town, meeting people etc And we were supposed to believe Ty and Nev were fated to be together but I had a hard time buying that. USA TODAY bestselling author Marilyn Pappano returns to the mysterious and dangerous town of Copper Lake.

Copper

Sweet, lyrical writing fills this tender story along with strong, genuine characters. The passion between them is intense, the premise mystical and fresh and the story touching. RT Book Reviews, rated 4 stars Marilyn Pappano On the flip side to things, I got back to reading Copper Lake Encounter which was my first foray into Harlequin Romantic Suspense and technically was the first Harlequin of this exploration as I started it back in August. This one has a cop as one of the protagonists, but oddly didn't have that crime feeling to it at all but rather a 'do the right thing' feel. Although I enjoyed the romance in this one, it was the personal story that really got me as it follows a woman who is drawn to a town by seeing it in dreams. That's totally up my alley! I found her journey very powerful, and would totally love to read more books in this setting. I think I'm going to keep trying books from the different series, because so far I've had happy surprizes from going outside the normal bounds of what I'd try. Marilyn Pappano Big Bag o' Fluff #12

A promising start and then a pretty epic fizzle.

Also, the main character is determined to be stay home mom / wife. Which is fine, but she brings it up so often that the book ends up feeling like an apologetic for [air quotes] traditional values which is always a strange fit with premarital sex.

The storyline was okay. I thought Ty's grandpa was funny, I like him. I like Ty I thought he was sexy. The story could have had more action. Marilyn Pappano This is the second book I've read in the Copper Lake series. In this volume we meet Nev a young woman who has been having disturbing dreams for several months. Nev's grandmother thinks she should explore these dreams and once her grandmother finds the town Nev has been dreaming about is not to far away Neve takes a trip to Copper Lake.

Nev feels an instant affinity for the small town She also feels an instant attraction to police detective Ty Gadney. Nev has two wonderful days with Ty and then things get scary as her hotel room is vandalized and she is mugged. Now Ty and Nev must uncover secrets to Nev's past before they can make a future together. I lovd the racial diversity in this story with the added excitement of danger and mystery. Marilyn Pappano
