Brother Betrayed By Danielle Raver

In broad terms, Brother betrayed is a grand, epic fantasy-adventure, and as such it has the sort of travel, adventure, swordplay, knights, kingdoms and battles that would be expected of such a work.

But there's much more to it than that.

It's also the story of three brothers. Each of those brothers have unique personalities and interests and the author defines those differences subtly but masterfully. A glance here a comment there and without any overstatement, the reader gets a feel for these characters that pushes the right buttons in the readers mind without being overtly stated.

The tale is larger-than-life and the language is appropriately dramatic and poetic. While never over-done, many scenes are scripted in a manner that leaves the reader simply appreciating the beauty of the written words.
And while the story is anchored with classic fantasy elements, there are surprises at every turn. I never knew quite what to expect and there where many moments that left me thinking: Wait a minute . . . what was that? Did that just happen?

A thoroughly enjoyable, fast-paced, unpredictable story that entertains from beginning to end. I'd highly recommend it to anybody looking for such a read.
English I loved the tale. The struggle between Syah and his brothers is certainly epic. There is a lot of really intense action and great prose. I couldn't put it down!Tad Williams, 'The Dragon Bone Chair'; Danielle Raver, 'Brother, Betrayed'

Brother, Betrayed by indie author Danielle Raver was a real pleasure to read! Raver has created a very real world, called Miscia. The three brothers, Oman, Fasime and Syah are very close and love each other very much, although they each have widely divergent interests and personalities. The tale focuses somewhat more on Syah, the youngest brother; and the one whose physical health has often been fragile.

The tale begins with the three brothers going on an extended journey. Omens and portents abound; and the brothers find themselves contemplating the words of a witch after they return. Raver pays attention to the backstory and paints in the details without going off on tangents. This makes for a beautifully drawn picture of the world in which her characters live.

The land of Miscia is nearing the end of its long golden age, and is poised on the edge of violent change. As the story progresses, each of the brothers becomes more clearly defined, as do their hopes and ambitions. They love their father the king, and they love their land of Miscia. Each brother makes decisions that affect the land for good or for ill based on that love. Oman tends toward paranoia and fear; Fasime is caught in the middle, and the youngest, weakest brother, Syah, is the voice of reason.

No one believes in magic or dragons anymore, and this becomes part of the central tension of the tale as the scholarly Syah begins to understand that his world is not exactly as he had always believed it to be.
The old King is a wonderful, brave character, beloved by the people as brave warrior and a benevolent ruler. The circumstances surrounding his death plunges the land into a civil war, and divides the brothers.

The battle scenes are inspiring, particularly the last battle of the old King. His strength and wisdom are some of the best scenes in a wonderful tale. Also later on a wise old dragon is introduced as an important character.

Raver’s prose is lyrical, and the tale is told as if by the court chronicler. This tale seems to be left open for a sequel; although it is an excellent stand-alone tale in itself. I highly recommend this to all those who enjoy a good epic fantasy.
English Let's get started by saying that I LOVED this book!

It is exactly what happens when you take a whole bunch of Arthurian tales along with a large chunk of Tolkien's world, tear them up into little pieces and then stitch them all back together.

At no point in time did I ever question the validity of the world in which I had been placed. It is painted beautifully. The descriptions of both place and person are rich in detail.

Who would I recommend this book to? This book is a work fantasy, so anyone who is a fan of this genre will be very happy indeed with this book. I did also feel flavours of tales such as those found in the Mabinogion, so anyone who is also partial to tales of either King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table or The Lord of the Rings (or, indeed, anything written by Tolkien) will also find this book a fascinating read. English Blurb:
What would you give to protect your brother? Would you sacrifice all you cherish and desire to save his life?
And what would you do if he betrayed you?
Full of loyalty and courage, vengeance and loss, Brother Betrayed is an engaging tale of brotherhood, set in the fantastical world of Miscia.

This novel has everything that a grand fantasy should offer.
The brothers (princes) are depicted perfectly. Great characterization overall.
The plot was well developed, although I thought the pace could be tightened up a little in the early middle--more action! Towards the end, the pace was perfect.
And the book was a perfect length for the story being told.

I look forward to the next book in this setting. English Just finished reading this book and loved it! The story is wonderful, but the thing that pulled me in and hooked me was the relationship between the brothers. Each brother has a distinct personality, and as you watch them interact you begin to really care about them. Their dialogue is perfect! The writing is also superb, and the book left me hoping that Danielle continues writing more stories in the land of Miscia! English

One brother will betray the others with such treachery that it will change the destiny of Miscia forever.

The three princes hear this prophecy, and they will discover how far it will drive them to explore love, loyalty, and their own souls.

The princes are bound by loyalty to each other and their kingdom. When conflict comes to their land, their ascension into power is darkened by betrayal.

Oman, eldest and Anteria's promised king, leads his brothers on their journey through Arnith.

Fasime, driven by passion, seeks a life of romance and adventure.

Syah, born the ailing youngest brother of these two outgoing princes, endeavours to overcome his bleak destiny through pursuit of knowledge and magic; a quest that may reveal unknown power within his own soul.

A tale woven with deception, war, sacrifice, and magic, BROTHER, BETRAYED takes readers to a troubled kingdom surrounded by barbarians, magical races, and forbidden boundaries. Brother Betrayed

Was looking for a Martin or Salvatore type book with this novel, but it's not as action-oriented. English Over all this book was pretty good. I really got into it towards the end, and then it does end at a super important epic battle....so now i need to find the second book. Sometimes it felt like the author was just writing to use up some space, but most of the time it was really interesting, and I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to ready more from this author. English It's a series. This is book one, waiting for the second. Interesting. English Couldn't connect with the characters. English Very disappointed. The characters were lifeless caricatures and the world felt pale and lifeless. Beyond the idea, there was nothing to recommend this book. The dialog and combat scenes were poorly done and all the characters seemed like flat stereotypes. English
