Anyone who catches my eye can have me By Jim ODonoghue

London in the summer of 1999 is in the grip of a neo-nazi bombing campaign. Dean, a thirtysomething flaneur, meets two women on successive nights and forms strong attachments to them both... Anyone who catches is a Gatsbyesque tribute to the excesses and failings of the 1990s, told with acid verve and shot through with a kind of low literary cunning. I am in awe of how intelligently written this bleakly-beautiful book is English I loved this book, but more because of its writing than its plot. The language acted as a barrier between me and the story, and the characters had an incredible complexity that I hadn’t seen before. I will be fond of this book for a long time. English How did I come across this author and this book? I would have never found this book on my own until circumstances brought me to meet a certain individual. Well, let's back track a bit to the mid global pandemic during 2021 when I came across a world renowned Finnish artist/juggler who was friends with a gentleman, originally from Ireland, who once lived in Vietnam teaching English. Well this English teacher left Vietnam and went back to Cork, residing in his native Ireland during the global pandemic. We ended up conversing due to the disappearance and erractic behaviour of our mutual Finnish artist friend. During our online conversation about our missing artist friend, the English teacher then informed me that his uncle named Jim O'Donoghue wrote this book and we shared a bit about my experience and the time I spent in Cork Ireland exploring the famous butter museum, St. Anne's Cathedral and the Cork City Hall. So back in 2021 I put this book on my TBR list and the pile of books just kept growing. Well, here is the long awaited review of the book and the review will be much shorter than this long backtracking story of how I came across this author and my wonderful memories I had in Ireland back in 2007. The title of this book is somewhat intriguing to me because......mainly I don't share the same sentiment as the title. Just because someone catches my eye, does not mean they can have me. I am not that easy. This book is an interesting story of a man and two women.....sort of like a bermuda triangle of relationships where a man has to make decisions about the two women in his life. Dean has Laura and Monika in his life but Laura is a married woman looking for a diversion as the husband doesn't fulfill her needs so her heart wanders. Overall, an interesting story. English
