After All the Wreckage By L.J. Evans
As much as I tried I couldn’t be invested in this story. The main characters were flat, it was slow burb and there were many side plots.
I believe that readers who are fans of Veronica Mars’ tv series will enjoy AAtW.
Dnf @ 53% After All the Wreckage After All the Wreckage is a stand alone romantic suspense by L.J. Evans. I just this minute finished this book and am speechless. I feel like every book I read of L.J.’s is better then the one before and this one is no exception. I was riveted from the first page until the last. I’m going to give you a little bit of background information on these two but this is one of those books you just need to experience. That no words will ever do it justice!
Gage Palmer is twenty seven years old. He had a dream once upon a time of being a storm chaser. But then he needed to return home to Cherry Bay to assume guardianship of his much younger brother and sister. Now he is a full time parent while at the same time, running their family’s bar, The Prince Darian Tavern. On top of it all, he is trying to help his younger siblings navigate “abilities” they have inherited from their mother. His life is both full in a way he never imagined because he would never give up the relationship he has with his siblings, but also it is lonely and stressful, trying to make ends meet and navigate a world he never thought he’d be forced to. Then, when “she” walked into his bar one evening, his world was once again turned upside down.
Rory Bishop is twenty two years old. Rory is trying to finish college and trying to run her mother’s Private Investigation business. Her life is focused on survival, trying to get through each day the best she can.
Rory and Gage first met when she was twelve and he was seventeen. Her crush on him was instant and has never waned. But, it’s been seven years since they have seen each other. Now they are adults and those five years don’t matter. As soon as they come face to face the night she went into his bar, as soon as they touch, lightening strikes. There is a magnetic pull between them that is inexplicable. But their lives are in such states that neither of them can make that first move. But, when Gage’s younger brother goes missing, Rory is the only one he trusts that he can go to for help. And as each day passes, their bond grows stronger.
As Rory and Gage try to unravel the missing pieces to the puzzle, it becomes more and more evident that both of their cases are entangled. And every time they reveal a secret, the danger becomes stronger. They are both torn between keeping their loved ones safe and also finally knowing the truth. How far are they willing to go to find the answers they need and where will it leave the two of them when it’s all over?
This book held me prisoner from the beginning to the end. The epilogues were perfect and left me so happy. I can’t say enough how amazing this book is and hope that you will fall in love just as I did.

After All the Wreckage This was yet another stunning story from LJ Evans. Not only did this book make me happy and satisfied in all the ways, but it also grabbed ahold of my heart & soul. I finished this days ago and I’m still thinking about it.
Ms. Evans’ storytelling skills are top notch, her words poetic. Sometimes they were the simplest of words, but with the deepest of meanings that packed a punch. Words full of the strongest of feelings, with the power to bring you to your knees.
Rory…wow…I must say I have a bit of a girl crush. She is one of those female characters who is smart and strong and completely badass. And I kinda want to hang out with her and be her best friend.
You know those book boyfriends who are absolutely perfect? Protective and thoughtful and sweet & swoony and responsible and caring and sexy AF…Gage was all of that and more. The connection between Rory and him was so strong, their chemistry electric. The sexual tension was delicious and it made me tingle with anticipation. I loved these two together so much.
To watch Rory & Gage re-connect after years apart and to see their bond gradually get stronger was absolutely delightful. Their relationship got stronger, their love more powerful and passionate, and that only made my adoration for them grow bigger.
This was such an extraordinary story, keeping me on the edge of my seat the majority of the time and filling me with so much awe and love through all of it.
This gorgeous story left me with a heart that was put through the wringer. LORDY. I cried, I smiled, I swooned, I gripped my kindle a little bit harder during a few scenes. And I. Felt. Everything. Heart-breaking, heart-stopping, heart-warming…this book did ALL THE THINGS to my heart, so be warned. But most of all, it captured it and fill it with love and hope and pleasure and pure joy and contentment.
Outstanding is too mild of a word to describe this book. I have loved every single thing I’ve read by this super-talented author and this one was no different. LJ Evans always delivers and she delivered this one beautifully and perfectly.
If you love single dad romances with plenty of suspense and characters who will make you fall in love with them, I can’t recommend this one enough. After All the Wreckage DNF. This year I decided to not force reads I’m not loving. This one started out great, but all the inner monologue…. just not holding my attention. After All the Wreckage 4’25✨ After All the Wreckage
What if the future is already written?
Gage
When Rory Marlowe Bishop walks out of my past and into my bar, I realize she’s not just a kid anymore. Now she’s hell on wheels and a special kind of temptation. But I can’t afford the distraction, not with the responsibility I’ve inherited. I’m raising my two young siblings who have inherited the unexplainable family “gift” of premonitions that always seem to come true.
It’s safer to keep my distance from the enigmatic private investigator. Rory doesn’t need to be tangled up in my family drama. At least that’s what I tell myself until my brother goes missing…
Rory
Gage Palmer was the hero of my childhood, entering my life when I needed him most. A decade later and I’m instantly reminded of the teenage crush I never quite got over. But neither one of us can act on our growing feelings once he hires me to find his brother. I won’t stop until I help him uncover the truth. Not when I have the chance to reunite a family instead of breaking one.
Even if it means revealing secrets that could destroy us.
Even if it means our future is already written in the wreckage. After All the Wreckage
This was an amazing standalone I highly recommend you pick up and devour!
I wasn't sure where to put this story. It is a well-written thriller with romance and a parapsychology edge.
I love a great crime procedural from authors such as Toni Anderson, Lee Childs, Karin Slaughter, etc. The novel provides this along with a romantic storyline where the chemistry leaps off the page.
Gage and Rory had big main character energy. Both sacrificing their wants and needs to make sure the family they have are safe. While the clues a slowly given the reader like a puzzle, the pieces all lock into place at the end.
If you are like me and enjoy mystery/thrillers but wish for that romantic edge- something different and not so technical, this is a story I recommend you put on your TBR and read ASAP! After All the Wreckage LJ Evans has a powerful way to get me immersed in her stories and this book was no exception. Rory and Gage just kept me hooked to the story from the very first page to the last line. This small town second chance romantic suspense is full of twists and turns. It is made of millions tiny puzzle pieces those come together in front of your eyes in a cunning way. You won't be able to stop because you have to know what is going to happen in next chapter.I didn't dare to breathe or stop and blink an eye in the fear of In the fear of missing any important piece!
Expert PI Rory Bishop is back to the small town to run the investigation business previously run by her now comatose mother. She just came to know that it was not an accident . Her father is a big shot PI who has lots of power and money but she refuses to go to him for any help because they have an ugly history. She also refuses to sit still till she catches the murderers of her mother. Her path is crossed with Gage Clark. He was a childhood crush and it appears that Gage has some feelings for her. But the thing is that makes the situation even more complicated is his missing psychic mother, his siblings with special powers and one of the visions that put everyone in danger including Rory. Is this is their chance to make everything right together
I absolutely love Rory. I absolutely love to read about bada&& female characters and Rory is the baddest of them all. She is kind of the Black Widow if you have seen the Avengers. I think she is dealing with a lot of overwhelming grief , a lot of drama in professional life, lot of pain from fractured relationships,a lot of emotional baggage and even through all of this hardness, her brilliance shines! She is a brilliant hacker, has a great intuition, has a fierce determination to fight for justice and above all a big compassionate heart. She wants to help the kids even when she knows she doesn't have the time on money or the resources to do so because she has bigger fish to fry but she cannot step backward when someone is in trouble. But this is very convoluted plot where you see Gage and Rory's lives intersecting with each other and exploding with each other. It is a beautiful montage of action, suspense, mystery, power plays, mind games and with a biy of supernatural twist with the special abilities of Gage's mother. You will be completely mesmerised from beginning to the end. Gage is an alpha hero but the thing is that it's difficult to be an alpha with Rory because she loves to take control, she needs to play with fire and then she needs to put herself in danger. Though it goes against Gage's protective and responsible personality, he was a perfect partner for Rory. They both had issues. Gage had a loton his plate too. He carries the burden of abandonment and taking care of some amazing kids & the family business..but I loved the way he stepped up, when needed, for Rory. She has the toughest personality but that doesn't mean she doesn't need someone to make her feel safe, make her feel cherished, make her feel protected and loved. Gage did that while at the same time giving her the independence and the respect. They are both broken but together, they make so much sense.
I think complex interpersonal relationships is a place where LJ Evans excels. This book is equally angsty and heartbreaking as it is fast paced and action packed and adrenaline filled. That is very difficult balance to achieve but she did it so well. The suspense enhances the chemistry and connection between Gage and Rory. It was slow burn and full of intense deep feels. This book has so many amazing things going at the same time, in a delicate yet perfectly balanced style.
I reviewed an early copy voluntarily After All the Wreckage 4.5 ⭐️ After All the Wreckage This was an enjoyable, sometimes suspenseful read that had a steamy romance. I enjoyed it and thought Rory was Bad A**. She was everything I love about a MFC and she really made this story. I thought Gage was lovely and dreamy.
Thanks Rick for my eArc. After All the Wreckage What a fantastic read! A stand alone romantic suspense story that hooked me and did not let go. Days later, I am still thinking about the book, and I know my words are not going to be up to par with Ms. Evans. This is one of those go in blind and discover it all.
Rory and Gage have a past, but we get to know them now. They are both navigating what life has handed them, along with the challenges that go hand in hand. As she walks into his bar and back into his life. But when Gage’s brother has gone missing, and Rory is the only one he trusts.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
