This book opened with a bang and kept up the momentum throughout. A well-written sci-fi-romance that was action packed. I love Kylie. She was strong and admirable yet flawed. And Griff...sigh...a perfect romance hero. The world-building was spot on. The premise was unique and fascinating. Just overall a wonderful read! 250 The women of planet Andan are turning up mutilated and dead. Kylie and SIRT team are investigating who is behind the killings. Griff knows who is behind the killings. When Kylie is approached by Griff, she thinks she has her killer. When she is abducted Griff comes to her rescue but her former taskforce still has their doubt about Griff and now Kylie as well. On the run, Grigg and Kylie must work together to stop anymore women from being killed.
When I first started reading books I was originally attracted to Sci-Fi books so I am no novice to this genre. I found Ms. Lyndi Alexander has created exactly what I like in my Sci-Fi; a suggestion of the future without a conformation of it. I like to to be able to suspend reality without questioning time-frame accuracy. I just want to sit back and enjoy the book. I was not disappointed with A Small Degree of Hope. Filled with action and suspense, this page turner kept me riveted from the first to the last page. I found all the characters very well written and engaging. Kylie is a strong woman holding her own against the men in her life. Griff is a great romantic hero and he definitely has the strong semi-silent type down pretty good. Granted he's a shapeshifting lizard, but what was delightfully missing from his personality was the typical over-bearing macho-ism that you see in so many plots nowadays. I like how I was kept on my toes by not only the obvious villains but the additional questionable 'bad guys'
Over-all A Small Degree of Hope is a great Sci-Fi book. Definitely a nice change from paranormals and very much worth the read.

Stars - 4 Flames - 2 250 Wow! The author grabs you in the beginning of this amazing story and doesn't let go. I loved it. I loved the characters; Kylie she rocks, I'm in awe of her character shes tough, not perfect and totally loyal to her family (sort of) and job. Then of course Griff, so sweet and loving and sexy in both forms. This unique and utterly fantastic story was so insanely awesome I'm at a loss of words. Humans, lizards, different planets and so much more this story is action packed, wild and loving all in one. It's a must read if your into paranormal or even if your not it'll grab you. Can't wait to read more by this author, I hope there's more to Kylie and Griff's story (cross my fingers). 5 huge stars review by upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com 250 This was such a well played out storyline. I felt immediately drawn to Kylie. She's a badass, and full of feeling, which I really liked.
I'm also a big romance fan, and when Griff came onto the scene, I was immediately rooting for the two of them.
If you enjoy sci-fi and romance, this book is for you! 250 http://openbooksociety.com/article/a-...

This is a wonderful sci-fi storyline! There is lots of action. The characters were interesting, with lots of quirks that made them interesting, some likable and others not so much.
Kylie is a strong heroine, that has worked very hard at becoming who she is as a detective. Her family seems to have issues, although her mother comes through for her late in the book. Her father….yikes, not good daddy material.
Griff was a sweetie, and completely different than his brothers, I loved that the author went to his world and that there were many others in his society that were more like him. I thought that was a nice twist, it would have been easier for the author to make the whole society cold and ruthless especially since they were reptilian, but she surprised me by how she was able to incorporate allies in such a positive way.
In all honesty the romance was weak. Pacing of it was off and wasn’t very romantic, I guess perhaps it was meant to be that way because of the differences in the two main characters. It just felt off. I did like how the author left Griff different and Kylie changed. Nice different way to write the story. So many of the “sci-fi romances” have the “other” species look and act humanoid. In this story the author lets us see the differences in an interesting way.
The Sci-fi storyline was awesome! What a great way to show how trying to change a species doesn’t work.
There is lots of action, family drama, lighter sex scenes, and a wonderful mystery to solve.
I highly recommend this story to young adult to adults who enjoy a smart, well written, interestingly different sci-fi story with lighter romance in it. The romance doesn’t take over the story, it stays a mystery as the detectives try to figure out what’s going on. I would like to see more stories in this world, with Griff and Kylie working together. What a great team they make. 250
