A Murder and a Missing Wife By Robert G. Rogers
Mark Ellison’s wife, Julie, a prominent surgical assistant nurse and supporter of the Help A Child charity, has gone missing. Three days after her disappearance, Helen Howard, a real estate broker who also helped Ellison edit and promote the books he wrote, was found murdered.Assuming the worst, Ellison is anxious to have his wife declared dead so he can collect the insurance policy. But this makes the insurance company suspicious, so they hire Bishop Bone to find out what happened to her. They inform Bone that Julie’s policy also included a large bequest to the Help A Child charity.Chief Jenkins is also suspicious that the disappearance of Ellison’s wife and the murdered realtor might be connected. He asks Bone to look into Helen’s murder as well. The investigation gets dicey when he uncovers a bootlegged adoption operation, and also learns that the charity isn’t exactly on the up and up. Bone soon becomes the target for someone who doesn’t want this information exposed, but some ingenious thinking helps him find out what happened to Ellison’s missing wife and bring Helen’s murderer to justice before he gets killed himself.
